After months of neglect, my copy of Demon’s Souls was left on my shelf gathering dust, but after watching the impressive Dark Souls 2 demo shown at E3 last week, I decided to give it another go.
It's one of my top3 RPG'S of all time. Only liked Gothic 2 better. Dark Souls was good but nowhere near Demon's Souls imo, but I'm still very excited for Dark Souls II.
I bought the Gothic Franchise on Steam for 5 bucks (USD), it was a steal! I'm going to start Gothic 2 soon, just taking a break from the awesomeness of Gothic 1! Demon's Souls is better than Dark Souls to me aswell, Boletaria, the Nexus, the ONLINE (no lag-stabs!) and the items imo. Wondering how Dark Souls 2 will be, because it is looking great so far. OT: Demon's Souls is a must-have for hardcore RPG fans on the PS3, I bought it a year ago for 20$, one of the greatest 20$ I spent in my life!
If you liked Gothic you'll love Gothic 2 ;) I don't know why but this game just has something very special at it and I could still play it no matter the dated graphics and gameplay and even after playing through it for over 5 times. Make sure you get the Addon with the pirates, it makes the game even better! :)
So amazing and rewarding
ok guys seriously, which is harder, better, larger world, enemy varieties and longetivity? demon's souls or dark souls..... still...never played any of these "souls" games.
Demon Soul's - Harder, longevity. Dark Soul's - Larger World, enemy varieties. which one is better is entirely subjective on the person, me personally i prefer dark souls. but i still love demon's souls.
I think neither is harder than the other. If you played Demon's souls first for example, you wouldn't feel that Dark Souls is as hard because the games play pretty much the same so you would already be good at DaS when you start playing it for the first time. I went for DaS first and I didn't think that DeS was that hard at all and I prefer DaS to DeS, simply because it was my first Souls game.
@Locksus Well said far too many people say this ones harder then the other. I played dark souls first and found demons a walk at the beginning only sue to the fact i was familiar with the concept. @Sherimae2413 Although Demons is a quality title non the less i prefer dark due to it's more content but they are both equally challenging, rewarding and fun to play.
i played Demon's Souls first.. finished it and now i can't even go past the tower demons in Dark Souls. so irritating. /:
@Locksus Thank God some one else thinks this!
"I think neither is harder than the other. If you played Demon's souls first for example, you wouldn't feel that Dark Souls is as hard..." That's because Dark Souls is easier in comparison to Demon's Souls. People who constantly whine about how hard Blighttown is nearly always the ones who have never experienced Valley Of Defilement to its fullest. Infested Barbarians of Blighttown cannot even be compared to Giant Depraved Ones for instance, let alone their Black Phantom versions. Even each one of the typical BP's you face in DeS (each of the ones in 1-4 for instance) are ten times harder than NPC invaders of Dark Souls.
I'm currently playing Dark Souls. It's a great game, but to me it doesn't quite feel like Demon's Souls. Also, this one is easier. Demon's Souls definitely is better. It's a master piece. One of my favorite games this gen.
It's easier because you played Demon's Souls first.
Longetivity will be Dark Souls since Demon Soul servers our getting shut down from what i heard.
nah atlus said the servers would remain up for the foreseeable future. they were supposed to shut them down, but way too many people play demon's souls for them to do it.
No they aren't. Atlus have stated that Demon's Souls servers will stay online indefinitely as long as there is an active player base. Also, considering Atlus put Demon's Souls on PSN, it's unlikely that they are shutting down the servers.
Dark Souls is much better than Demon's Souls in terms of story, challenge, bosses, enemies, equipments/weapons, graphics and it has open environments and so much things to discover and do.. epicnamebro on youtube, he is probably number 1 Souls fan prefers Dark Souls @ DragonKnight i wasn't using ENB as a fact, i was just pointing that he's a huge fan of Souls games and he likes Dark Souls more than Demon's Souls as i am lol..and to me, Demon's Souls was easier
Demon's Souls has a better world, a better back story, harder overall levels, better weapon scaling by a wide margin, and Boletarian f*cking Palace. Just because EpicNameBro likes prefers Dark Souls, doesn't make Dark Souls better. **EDIT** Plus, Demon's Souls has this... http://www.youtube.com/watc...
It's all a matter of opinion, they are both fantastic games, definitely two of the best of this generation but Dark Souls takes the cake for me.
Demon's souls has harder, longer levels but the bosses are easy. Dark Souls has more optional bosses, weapons, larger areas, the levels are typically easy and the bosses are hard. Overall I think, after just recently playing demon's souls for the second time compared to the 8 times I have beaten dark souls, I would say dark souls is all around harder (because some of those bosses are rediculous), a better game, and more rewarding. But I suggest you play both as people have their preferences.
Demon's Souls was better to me, but Dark Souls is still great. They are my number one and two favorite games of the generation. As for your categories : Demon's - Harder, better (to me), and I played it longer so longevity. Dark - Larger world, more enemy variety There were some things I liked better about Dark Souls but overall Demon's Souls was my favorite.
I found Dark Souls more enjoyable. Probably because I was already used to the gameplay and controls. IMO Dark Souls is a better package but Demons Souls has something special... I don't know what... something Dark Souls hasn't... (the Maiden in black? Maybe... lol)
My favourite is Dark Souls, probably because I played it first. Also I think it's true that which ever game you play second will feel a bit easier because you're experienced with the style right from the start.
@sherimae "never played any of these "souls" games" @[email protected] woah, you've gotta get on that. Start with Demon Souls. It came out first, i'm guessing that's what devs wanted us to experience first >_< I also found it the most enjoyable. The Nexus, the Maiden in black, Old King Allant, Astrea :O Damn, I seriously need to go & play it again -__-" Have fun! :D
If you a really hardcore gamer, play Demon's Souls. This game is not for pussy's.:) Dark Souls is a little bit easier.
dark souls is easier but MORE FUN, which is what matters
This was only €10 on the PS Store a few weeks. I thought why not and while I think the game is really hard it just keeps you going back to it again and again.
FYI It was free for PS+ members. I picked it back up. Very Challenging to say the least. Its (and Dark Souls too) one of a very few games that make me want to throw my controller. You think you have a enemy's move down and your down, lost all your souls and have to make your way back to where you died to get your souls back. If you've never played Demon's Souls or Dark Souls, pick them up on the cheap now. Also, I think the Bosses in Dark Souls are a little harder.
So is this a JRPG or an RPG? Is a JRPG all about the traits such as anime style characters and such? or is it just an RPG made by Japanese developers that makes it an "JRPG"? The game is very Western though (obviously still has a lot of Japanese themes) so is it just an RPG? I can't make up my mind >_< Oh and Demons Souls is one of the best JRPG/RPG's this gen in my opinion.
you're making it more complex than it is..it's a Japanese made RPG, it's ok to call it JRPG or RPG...although JRPG is mostly used for traditional Japanese games with fantasy/animesh style and theme also, i'm getting disagrees for saying Dark Souls is better in my first post above lol.. both games are great but Dark Souls is better :)
That's why you're getting disagrees. You're stating Dark Souls as better as some kind of fact and you use EpicNameBro to back up your claim. The truth is that both are nearly identical games so they are both just as good as each other with minor differences that make which game is better strictly a preference and not a fact.
Who in the right mind calls Dark Souls better than Demon's Souls?
I prefer Demon Souls, I hated the magic system in Dark Souls. I would agree with harder bosses in Dark Souls outside the Flamelurker in new game plus but Demon Souls have harder levels overall.
I actually thought the Maneaters were tougher than Flamelurcker... and nothing in Dark Souls compares to 5-2. The equivalent map is more annoying than challenging. Those stupid flies and spider things are nothing compared to that Black Phantom with a Meatcleaver.
To me The Four Kings is the toughest boss. I'm on NG+6 and they don't seem to get any easier. I platimumed both games, but my personal preference and the game I always go back and play when I feel like playing a decent RPG is Dark Souls. I loved the curling in the nest part that takes you back to area you started at and finding a doll in the prison cell which opens a whole level behind a painting. Demon's Souls has a unique air about it. The lighting and music were done in a way that gives a chill and a sense of foreboding other games dream of having.
Demon's Souls, Witcher series, and Knights of the old republic. 3 of the best RPGs
The Feel of Demon's Souls is just incredible much more superior than Dark Souls.
yeaah it's not that different...
The Nexus in Demon's that sense of being safe. The NPC all over the Nexus, that to me alone was the better feeling about Demon's Souls. Dark Souls felt easier and not as beautiful.
I've played both games but I always end up putting it down :(, I really want to get the will to get through these games but I don't think I have the patience to complete it. It is incredibly rewarding though.
Two things that are done much better in Demon's Souls over Dark Souls is the music and weapon upgrade paths. There was much more variety in the paths so I felt I could choose a weapon I liked and adapted it to my stats. In Dark Souls I would have to choose a weapon I liked and adapted my stats to it.
I always thought the boss fights where much more exciting in Demons souls your first time through as well.
Before i played Demons Souls i use to tell people that Shadow of the colossus was the best over all experience i ever got from a game, my favorite of all time...until of course you know, Dark souls was great as well though i am still not sure about the new directors working on Dark souls 2 but Demons souls is the best game with out a doubt.
Demons Souls is great, apart from that archstone sound. I used to play DS for hours and when I went to bed I could still hear the archstone sound :S Maybe I played it too much, lol!
