The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Preview: A More Tactical RPG Combat | The Escapist

The Escapist: "Confession time: I've never played a Witcher game. The first one was originally released on PC, I'm a console gamer, so it just didn't work out, and I let it pass me by even when the series made the move to consoles. From what I've seen of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, I probably shouldn't make that mistake again. Even though the hour-long presentation at CD Projekt Red's booth was marred by crashes and technical issues, I still walked away thinking that The Witcher 3 looked like my kind of game." (PC, PS4, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Xbox One)

Hey, this is Jed Pressgrove from fateofthegame.com. I was pleased to read "A More Tactical RPG Combat" in your headline. The Witcher 2 was already a very tactical RPG that required you to integrate sword fighting, magic, and bombs/traps to become the best of the best. Based on what I've played, the only RPGs that rival The Witcher 2's combat depth are the better strategy RPGs or the first two Fallout games (I've heard that Dragon's Dogma is great in this regard, too). So if The Witcher 3 has an even more in-depth combat system, I'm sure it will be mind-blowing.

Agreed I remember playing Witcher 2 after Skyrim and charged into battle only to get completely trounced by the enemy...I was like what the heck this is great!! Finally an RPG that really tests you out in terms of combat and sword skill. If Witcher 3 is going even further then that's great, bring it on. Best action RPG of this generation by a mile.

I highly agree. The Witcher is the best hands down!

Agreed.
Just an all around great package. Good gameplay, writing and deep mechanics. Hell, there's even actual choice . . . in an rpg!
Isn't that something?

This was the best game of E3 in my opinion. Nothing else didn't look nearly as interesting and awesome as this one did.

The Witcher series does well at blending action and elements of strategy. Truly an action-rpg done right.
It plays well, but has a lot of depth and mechanics to it.

CD Projekt knows their stuff.
