Xbox One And Saturn - Two Peas In A Pod

While watching the downward spiral of the Xbox One, comparisons between Microsoft's upcoming console and the ill-fated SEGA Saturn are inevitable. GameNTrain takes a look back at SEGA’s third console – the SEGA Saturn – to learn from the mistakes of the past and to see if Microsoft might be in trouble. (Xbox One)

Although I can't see the XB One selling as poorly as the Saturn, I never realised just how similar the two consoles are looking.

Microsoft are like a moth in Las Vegas at the minute and the sooner they stop chasing lights the sooner they get my pre-order.

Don't compare the two. Sega Saturn had no third party support and Sega did not have the money to secured exclusives and advertise their product. Silly comparison.

On top of that, the saturn was really difficult to develop for, made the ps3 seem like a cakewalk.

Actually, the Saturn had quite a lot of 3rd-party support from the Japanese publishers (Capcom, Konami, Hudson Soft), especially those who were heavily invested in the arcade scene.

What a waste of my time reading. Xbox One may have stumbled on to the starting line but it will pick up steam. I expect both PS4 and Xbox One to be successful next gen just like the 360 and PS3 this gen. Both consoles around the 80 million mark. That's a big win for both

@Benchm4rk
Well said bubble for you.

The very first system I was offered as a choice as a kid was the playstation or the sega saturn.

I opted for the saturn, and as a kid I didn't know the difference and it was a heck of a lot of fun.

I salute the system, because without it, I wouldn't have spent half my life gaming.

Such a troll article. They are more different then they are alike. Saturn was way ahead of its time when released and mainly offered quirky first party games.

I can't trust Microsoft at all so it may as well be the Saturn.

Ever since sony flipped flopped on the DRM and Internet requirements they have righted their ship. Worldwide sales will go to Sony, the US will be the big battleground for this console war.
Benchm4rk  +   302d ago
World wide sales will always go to Sony. Japan is too big of a market and they will always buy a Japanese console over a US one.
NihonjinChick  +   302d ago
Japanese people don't buy Nintendo and Sony consoles just because they're Japanese. They buy them because that's where most of the local Japanese developers go. Japan has it's own market of video games, their market is not like ours and a lot of their games stay in Japan. If Microsoft tried to tap into that market and started working with Japanese developers, they would sell some systems there.

I some what agree with you. Yes Sony and Nintendo have more local developers. But Microsoft has tried to tap into that market. Early on this Gen Microsoft went out of there way to entice Japanese developers and get games on the system. But Japanese gmers avoid the 360 like the plague regardless of how many local developers are on it. Microsoft has realised this and dont support that market as much anymore.

Don't count your peas before they're.. taken out of the pods..

Folks are forgetting that the Sega Saturn was the biggest selling console in Japan during the 2d arcade craze. The saturn flopped because it was very difficult to progrm 3d games, however it really excel in duplicating 2d arcade titles 100%.

Lame.

Saturn and PS3 have the most in common.

Especially in the price and hardware dept.
vikingland1  +   301d ago
You are correct and yet the PS3 didn't fail. So whats the point of this article?
SpinalRemains138  +   301d ago
This is a pretty silly comparison.
You cannot compare the two without implying that Xbox One is going to tank MS games division.

That just isn't happening.
