Can't we have the best of both worlds?
Exactly what MS should have done from day one. Make digital distribution attractive by earlier releases, lower prices, and perks such as sharing. There mistake was trying to make physical disks function as digital downloads, hence the requirement for all their restrictive DRM crap to enforce it. If they would have kept physical disks as they always have been but apply all the perks of their vision to digital they would have had two routes for gamers to pick from; the new and the old. In the end I believe digital would have been the primary distribution channel and MS would have arrived at its destination without force and all the backlash it justifiably recieved.
