E3 2013: Final Fantasy X HD Remaster is actually impressive | GamerTell

From the preview, "The Final Fantasy X HD Remaster E3 2013 demo began at the beginning of the game. Tidus is a big blitzball (underwater soccer) player in Zanarkand, when his father’s friend Auron shows up. That’s when things go to hell. Auron’s arrival also marks the appearance of Sin, the big, bad entity of Final Fantasy X. Auron’s there to get Tidus out safe, so the two run along the darkened streets of the city while the huge Sin blob shoots off its deadly and sentient scales." (E3, Final Fantasy X / X-2 HD Remaster: Collector’s Edition, PS Vita, PS3)

I just hope they do the FMVs. A lot of the previous HD ports have used the old low-resolution FMVs straight off the PS2 discs. It's quite jarring when the FMV looks worse than the actual gameplay.

FF10 FMV´s are still one the best ive seen and this game was originality released praticly 2 gens ago.

1080p FMV cutscenes would be nice.

@Xof

I believe that's because the game was not rendering the scene real time and instead was playing a pre-generated video file. The only way to get around that would be to remake the video file using new HD assets (which I would have liked to have seen done) which might have been cost prohibitive. I don't "think" FFX did that but it has been a decade since I played it. Unless your speaking about the cinematic movies. Those should be ok.

In any case, I agree with you :)

I would imagine that they would need all the original source material for FMV sequences (graphics, camera angles, motion data, ect), and re-render in 1080p. I doubt they would have all of that accessible though, but I'm also not a developer.

That was what I was assuming would be done as well: Re-render the original videos to a higher definition.

A smart company has saved all their original data and can go back and utilize it. I have no idea if Square is a smart company though lol.

I don't work in video games but I do do 3D automotive design and I know that I can pull up 3D design data from 20 years ago if I want.
