PS4 Still on Top Against Xbox One With More PS Plus Free Titles & A Knockout Show with Fallon?

With the Xbox One/Xbox 720 now turning its used games and 24-hour online check-in policies, it seems that PlayStation is put in a rather unsteady position. For one thing, those who may be thinking of shifting to the PS4 may not be swayed by the Xbox One, especially for diehard fans.

Don't forget Sony has a lot of other exclusives being announced at gamescon.

Relientk772001d ago

Can't wait to see what exclusives they show next

NewMonday2001d ago (Edited 2001d ago )

before the MS U-turn it was projected to be a lopsided 70%/30% split in favor of the PS4 in North America alone

but now it maybe a close split but still in favor of the PS4 (40%-60%) or (50%-50%).

unchartedxplorer2001d ago

Something by Naughty Dog *fingers crossed*

ABizzel12000d ago

I don't maybe 60-40, but looking at the PS3 vs. 360 it says otherwise.

PS3 was $100 - $200 more than the X1 all generation, and launched a full year later, and they're 51 - 49.

What happens when both launch the same time frame and the PS4 is $100 less? Based on the PS3 and 360 the diference will be at least 12+ million in favor of the PS4.

NewMonday2000d ago

@RyuCloudStrife & ABizzel1

all my estimates are about North America, the rest of the world will inevitably be dominated by the PS4 even before all this DRM stuff.

this generation the 360 has an estimated 70% share of the hardcore market, and Xbox dominates popular culture in the USA, even with the lower price+higher power of the PS4 it will be a challenge for Sony to go beyond a 40% market share in NA at best.

MWong2000d ago (Edited 2000d ago )

Sadly, I think M$ did too much damage. I think at best M$ will get a 60/40 split Sony leading. PS4 will also be distributed in more countries during the initial launch window which M$ is slating for next year and then also take in mind some places probably won't see a launch at all.

@ newmonday
I would have to say in this economical climate in America I think more people will get a PS4 at a $100 price difference over the XBone.

indysurfn2000d ago

Am I the only person that caught this?
Okay at the start of this Microsoft fooled people by using terms. Like LEND(should have been check out/check in) lending. Now they are being successful by using the term:
"offline game". Did you catch that, if you install a "OFFLINE game" then you will not have restrictions, that is the condition.

What defines a "OFFLINE game" What if only one game has the label of offline game on it? Most likey candidate would be a turned based rpg.
Heck what percent of games don't have a component of online on 360 games right now? Microsoft almost required it with few exceptions.
If there is a term "OFFLINE game" as a condition. for you to not have to get online.

Then that is a out, for Microsoft to change nothing! Don't trust a company that keeeeeeeeeps making pot shots at your rights. And keeps adding names like "OFFLINE xbox one games", to fool you, otherwise they Fooled you twice! Are you going to let that happen?

Microsoft qoute:An internet connection will not be required to play OFFLINE Xbox One games....If they where not trying to fool you it would

read:An internet connection will not be required to play (any) Xbox One games. see the difference? I don't care if it drops to 199 It is still

taking away my used games rights!!! plus as I pointed out the DRM issue is conniving explained to fool us? This is what Microsoft meant by

they will make this CLEAR. (MORE TRICKY) so if they dont make a offline box like they have a online multi player capable box on the back of the disc it is okay to still drm you to there hearts are content!!!

It's not just that. The price point, the better overall public perception. No camera requirement. And PS4 was the first system to get the reputation for "the only console that plays used games and doesn't need to go online" (as Jimmy Fallon put it). Microsoft changing their policies looks like they're playing catch-up (which they are), and customers notice things like that.

Plus, news about the Xbox One-Eighty changing policies occurred today. The general public doesn't keep up on game news. It took weeks for the 24-hour check in and DRM concerns to penetrate mainstream media, and we all know bad news travels much faster than good news.

It will be a while - if ever - before Xbox One begins to catch up to the PS4 due to the month-long trainwreck we just witnessed.

latincooker2142000d ago

well said dedicatedtogamers well said heres a bubble for you:)

PlayStation_42000d ago

POTENTIALLY being announced at gamescom, they said 20+ in the first year so we may even see some of those games being announced at next year's E3.

TheLyonKing2001d ago (Edited 2001d ago )

Ps4 is still on top due to price point mainly. If a cheaper one comes out (now this drm crap has been done away with) I will probably buy that too just to play sunset overdrive haha.

But still ps4 is my point if call.

NumOnePS3FanBoy2000d ago

Being a hardcore sony ps fanboy myself I will think about getting a an xbone at a later date when they will have a kinect less sku cuz I don't need that crap. But definitely will have my ps4 first

GribbleGrunger2001d ago (Edited 2001d ago )

I agree. This is how I break down my reasoning for still wanting a PS4:

XB1: $499
PS4: $399

XB1: Kinect2 (mandatory)
PS4: PSEye2 (Optional)

XB1: Requires internet (at least once)
PS4: No internet required

XB1: 8GB DDR3 (5GB available for games)
PS4: 8GB GDDR5 (7GB available for games)

XB1: GPU Weaker
PS4: GPU Stronger

XB1: Long term support questionable
PS4: Long term support guaranteed

XB1: Fewer AAA 1st party games
PS4: Plenty of AAA 1st party support (come on, you know this is a given)

XB1: Anti Indie policies
PS4: Great Indie relations

XB1: Big, black and uninteresting design (with external power brick)
PS4: Medium sized, black and damned sexy (with internal power brick)

XB1: 500GB HDD locked in
PS4: 500GB HDD changeable

XB1: LIVE (nothing new)
PS4: PS+ (40+ PS3 games/30+ Vita games/12 PS4 games/Auto updates/Cloud saves/Discounts/Early access to betas.

I also don't trust Microsoft enough to think they won't reintroduce those anti consumer policies at some point later on when they have a decent install base.

NameRemoved00172001d ago

Yup you just summed it up pretty well. Bubble for you sir.

ThatCanadianGuy5142001d ago

Good summary.

My main concern is the games of xone80.
They pretty much showed almost everything they have in the pipeline for the next 2 years. Most of which wont be out until 2014 (assuming no delays)

..What about after that? 360 had a great start too. Then the exclusives went multi, support faded, and since 2010 it's been a dry dusty plains for 360.

I somehow doubt MS will maintain a steady game flow like PS3 did.I'll wait a few years before i even think of picking one up.

NumOnePS3FanBoy2000d ago

hahaha I like the new term you used for the xbone... now we shall forever use xone80... oooooor we can make it into a hybrid xbone80

Corpser2001d ago

This is how I break it down

XB1 : has games I want to play
PS4: has games I want to play

So: get both

GribbleGrunger2001d ago

If you can afford both then go for it! I personally can't afford both.

Sayai jin2000d ago

Agreed. Its just that simple for me. The children on this site crack me up.

stage882000d ago

I'm lucky enough that I can afford both but I'm just getting the PS4. I don't trust Microsoft.

Sayai jin2000d ago

I have 10 Xbox ones and 12 PS4 preordered. I will keep two of each for me and my family and we will sell the rest at launch.

All corporations are about the mighty dollar.

Isn't the PS4 using 1GB for managing background downloads and social features?

SniperControl2000d ago

Yes, as apposed to 3gb on the x180

Aceman182000d ago

yes and its walled off from the rest of the system from what i remember hearing.

Reportillo42000d ago (Edited 2000d ago )

no the 1GB is just for the OS, they said they have a secondary chip for background its even better

Virtual_Reality2001d ago

More variety of F2P games and doesn't require to pay to play online on them on PS4.

MasterCornholio2001d ago (Edited 2001d ago )

Pretty much my reasons as well. And i would like to add the fact that i dont have any space for a horizontal console which is why i love the PS4s design.

WeAreLegion2000d ago

Sometimes, GribbleGrunger, I want to bubble you so hard...

Good work.

GribbleGrunger2000d ago

Is it weird of me to be slightly aroused?

WeAreLegion2000d ago

No. I think we're on the same page... ;)

Why o why2000d ago

Lmao....get a 'chat' room...smh

My reason this gen vs microsoft this gen

It showed me personally who caters more to my gaming needs. I'll leave it at that

latincooker2142000d ago

HOT DAMN GribbleGrunger well said heres a bubble to you PS4 FTW :)

wenaldy2000d ago

Ahhh you beat me to it lol.. Now, tell me it came from Neogaf lol..

GribbleGrunger2000d ago (Edited 2000d ago )

So you were going to steal my post were you!? LOL

ufo8mycat2000d ago

XBOX ONE being so big yet it still has an external power brick? WOW

Brugal2000d ago

I'll never forget being mocked by a Gamestop manager when I initially purchased a PS3 a few months after launch. The same manager was bashing MGS4 at the midnight launch over there. Now here we are several years later with a new generation of consoles on the horizon and we are able to play one of the great games this generation in the Last of Us. Sony has provided us with a steady pedigree of amazing and varied exclusives that are only available on their platforms, and for that reason alone I'll go with the PS4.

However, I can't discount the notion MS drm and used games policy change is great for those choosing the XBoxOne either at launch or eventually. It's a win for all of us. I don't think MS was ready for the extreme backlash they received when their initial plan was revealed, nor did they expect the overwhelming positive outburst Sony received for sticking by it's consumers. I also do believe MS changed their policies in large part due to the pre sale forecast as compared to the PS4.

I do give Sony a lot of credit originally sticking to supporting used games and not supporting required online connectivity.

Cheers everyone

wenaldy2000d ago

LOL yeah, pretty ballsy to put in such a place like N4G btw :D

because some M$ zealots can't handle the truth. Great post!!!

humbleopinion2000d ago (Edited 2000d ago )

It's funny how these specs are mostly the opposite of this gen (360 cheaper, more ram available, no mandatory HDD, better indie policies, more good games thanks to a year headstart, stronger GPU and so far longer support since the console is a year older. Yet many people didn't really care and bought the PS3.

But although some of the next gen assumptions here are still just speculations, one comment about HDD and next gen: the XB1 supports installing games on any external device, which means you don't have to throw away your 500GB HD while plugging in a 3TB external HDD via USB3. The PS4 with the interchangeable HDD but now external drive support is actually a disadvantage.

Jaqen_Hghar2000d ago

Good point especially about long term support. A man wouldn't be surprised to see MS severely drop their exclusive count after 2015 or so like how 360 stopped being a big exclusive system after 2008 or so. Sure they'll be there but they'll be safe and there will be nowhere near as big a year as PS3 is having in its 7th year (NiNoKuni, Sly, GoW, LoU, Puppeteer, Beyond, Rain). Sony has shown they support a 10 year lifecycle and MS has yet to. A man expects a wedding level massacre this upcoming gen. He will also pick up a WiiU.

"PS4: Medium sized, black and damned sexy (with internal power brick) "

internal power brick? is this confirmed? links please?

GribbleGrunger2001d ago

Actually, yes, you've got me there. I still think it's quite a compelling list of reasons I'm buying a PS4 though. :)

MrBeatdown2000d ago

It's confirmed if this is anything to go by...

gerol2000d ago

THANKS!! i'm dying to see the actual contents of the PS4!
no external power brick is a super plus for me :D

kaozgamer2000d ago

ps3 didnt have a power brick so im assuming the ps4 won't have one as well.

Honest_gamer2001d ago
