Xbox One Proves It: Don’t Mess With Used Games

After pitching the Xbox One as an all-digital platform in which games are installed to the hard drive and tied to an account, then spending almost one entire month vociferously defending its position to players and critics, it gave up on the whole damn thing this afternoon. Xbox game sharing, Microsoft now says, will work exactly as it does on your 360, for better or worse: You can trade and sell your discs but the “family sharing” plan for digital content and the ability to play games without the disc in the drive are gone.

The story is too old to be commented.

Actually, SONY proved it. MS just caved because Jimmy Fallon exposed the Xbone on national TV, thus ruining M$'s chances of trying to get the ignorant casual bro-dude 360 fan from upgrading to Xbone (due to the fact that many of those guys and gals never did any research about the Xbone and it's evil policies prior to pre-ordering).

Why did we have to beg and boycott for months, and even still MS said they wouldn't budge on their evil policy just 2 days ago. NOW they finally change their mind? Only after Jimmy Fallon informed the average American of the evils of the Xbox One? Yeah, right. All this PROVED that MS was evil and opportunistic. But when the opportunity presents itself again, they will bring back DRM in the future. And used games.

MS is still the devil--it only just retreated so that it can gather it's forces of evil again to fight again another day.

dark-hollow1768d ago

Oh gimme a break! We wanted the DRM crap out and they removed it. What's their motive doesn't matter yo me at all as long as they keep it this way.

That's all I care and the xbone is back under my radar again.

AyKKon1768d ago

Well said mister. There's bound to ALWAYS have something to complaint isnt there? Sheesh!

smashcrashbash1768d ago

Of course you feel that way.If someone was feeding you garbage all the time and you find out they were feeding you garbage all the time and they stop that makes it okay now because they stopped.Forget about all the days they were feeding you garbage and go back to them to eat some more.

This is the very reason Microsoft stays in business.People like you don't give a crap all the things they do to you and you will forgive them just like that. It's never 'That Microsoft conning us again'. Instead it's 'It's okay Microsoft is kindly taking it away' Yeah after everyone kicked them in the pants and punched them in the face after they refused to budge.Who cares about their motives. And we will be back to part two of the admiration of Microsoft saving their @$$es again.I have no doubt that Xbox famboys would have brought it DRM or not

finbars751768d ago

It doesnt matter if they announced this.Im sorry but all the crap they pulled and all of a sudden they decide where going to backpedal like that tells me that they did this because preorders where terrible, but mark my words now they will have some stipulation down the road witht the xboxone.A company doesnt just fold there crads like that withought some reason that we dont know about. They where also saying that MS did this to boost preorders as well so another sign that MS isnt to be trusted. If you guys go back to MS after all the shit they pulled and said then your only asking to get burned in the end.Give it time you will see.

dark-hollow1768d ago

Get over yourselves its a freaking video games console! Not your cheating ex girlfriend.

They announced crap DRM two weeks ago, people rightfully complained and they are backing up. Am not saying they are the holy defenders of gamers but am glad they listened. They should've from the first place.

It took them two weeks and you're talking like they tormented us for years in concentration camps!

Well there was the legitimate outcry. (still ongoing because of Kinect 2)

There was Jimmy Fallon.

...and there was Steam, who will allow game sharing without the need for everyone using Steam to have online checks.

In other words, it completely blew the reasons for needing such DRM out of the water.

You didn't need everyone to be online to share, because Steam doesn't.

So if Steam doesn't require their entire audience to be online, yet sharing is possible, why would M$?

It was common sense, but Steam delivered a big blow.

While I agree with some of the things u said but this is great news, it just proves that gamers have the power to hold the gaming industries future. Im proud of everyone who held their rights against these policies & stood their ground & fought for our rights as gamers. The gaming industry only looks brighter with none of these restrictions. Now let the real next gen battle begin. This is awesome news. =]

Jimmy Fallon is the man for speaking out. Also to those like greenpowerz, jokesonyou, it really sucks to see you guys fold to these corporates with out even holding any ground. You should be thankful that real gamers who love the gaming industry exist or else big corporates would just walk all over us if we just let it be.

psyxon1768d ago

+1. laughing so hard @ "casual bro-dude" rofl.

rainslacker1768d ago (Edited 1768d ago )

What's bad for MS is that people that don't follow this stuff are going to remember the bad things that have been said, either by their friends informing them, or through Jimmy Fallon's stating it on air, or through Yahoo's front page news, or any number of mainstream media outlets which have reported on it.

The changes in policy may not get the same attention, and may be restricted to the game community. In a sense, the damage has been done. MS now has to spend time and money to get people that were once turned off because of the policies, that the policies are no longer relevant.

I foresee an advertising campaign touting that you can still do with your products what you choose. The reaction to Sony doing that was huge, and MS may try to do the same thing to look like heroes to the uninformed.

Kind of like the old statistic, when people are unhappy, they tell 10 people. When someone is happy, they MAY tell 1 other person.

Winner gamestop and some customers who wait for that AAA that been out for a year. Losers the people who make games. Funny thing is gamestop isnt right around the corner how much money are you gonna save downloading it at home vs driving sadly most of our movies and music are digital and most games we buy we keep long past theyre worth the value of the demo wouldve increased but no gamestop wants in pay attention to how much your gonna lose vs what u couldve saved on less dlc trading digital info to your friends remember this when it 10 below and you want that game but its to cold out download it no where is the value in that.

They are moving n the sane direction but they still need to get rid of the mandatory Kinect, which will in turn the lower the price.

So If DRM and Internet connection is no longer needed does that mean it is no longer a requirement for the disk to be installed?
If so that would get rid of another issue i have with it.

At this point I'm still not going to get one at launch, I'll stick with the PS4 and 8 games I have on pre-order, M$ needs to pay for their arrogance and poor judgment, I'm not letting them off the hook that easy.

Rusty5151768d ago

The thing that's still somewhat pulling me away from the xbone is the mandatory game installs. They still have those. Not to mention the hard drive is only 500GB and can't be replaced. Installing every game to the system is gonna take up a lot of space fast...I'll wait a few years before I buy an xbone for a better model and also to see if Microsoft are sticking to these policies.

jmc88881768d ago

It shouldn't. If you buy retail games and link them with your steam account, you don't need the disc.

I did that with Bioshock Infinite when it launched.

Completely agree, still need to keep marching until we get mandatory kinect removed as well.

(which is actually a bigger issue, even if fewer people know or care about it)

Transporter471768d ago

NO is more like don't mess with your Consumer and put a ridiculous DRM that alienates them.

sarshelyam1768d ago

They've certainly stepped comfortably into the "follower" role this coming gen. If it was really something they had been listening to the fans on, it would have been announced at the most important unveil of the platforms lifecycle, E3 2013. They missed the opportunity, witnessed first-hand the passion attached to Sony's unveil, and had to take one long step backwards to save face.

Sorry, some will look at this as a brilliantly noble gesture...and admission of guilt, but damn if I can't get my trust back. Sorry Microsoft, you stepped knee deep into it and there's no coming back in my eyes.

IBleedXbox1768d ago

LMFAO microsoft fixed everything and Sony is bricking people console

kydrice1768d ago (Edited 1768d ago )

As if the 360 has been such a reliable workhorse of a console all these years...

psyxon1768d ago (Edited 1768d ago )

lol. exactly why i don't want an xbone. the xbots on live that have the maturity of a 7 year old on a sugar high.

yeah, noty.

IBleedXbox1768d ago

no you are talking about Call Of Duty. you don't see that on halo

psyxon1768d ago

nice joke. seriously.

NegativeCreep4271768d ago (Edited 1768d ago )

Microsoft only "fixed everything" after Sony forced their hand.

Take a moment to appreciate Sony as a giant entity in the gaming industry and what they have done for gamers in just the past few weeks. It wont freaking kill you.

smashcrashbash1768d ago

Yes they fixed everything .Except for the three years of RROD.But I am sure people like you pretend that that never happened. I love the maturity of Xbox fanboys. And they always pretend to be so reasonable and thoughtful. If it was reversed and Sony did this they would have buried them whether they changed it or not and would be jeering about how Microsoft forced their hands.

IBleedXbox1768d ago

the red ring never happened to me. so i can't complain. i have no problems with sony. i grew up playing playstation. but i hate the playatation controller. that is the only reason i choose xbox over playstation.
