Did Microsoft Have Us Fooled?

TheGamingExperience says: "Constantly in the business world, companies try and take advantage of the consumer for whatever reason; mostly to see what the competitor’s cards are. This has been a business practice for many decades, and I highly doubt it will stop anytime soon. The preface of this article is this little release by Microsoft"

MS have us fooled? How would that work to their advantage? What a foolish claim. MS caved because of the embarrassment on national TV thanks to jimmy fallon.

TheGamingExperience1134d ago

Sadly enough, Jimmy Fallon is rather irrelevant. Now if it was Craig Ferguson :)

Donnieboi1133d ago

Then by that logic, how much MORE irrelevent is this article? Do you have millions of people watching you/reading your articles?

See what I did just there?

DragonKnight1132d ago

"Sadly enough, Jimmy Fallon is rather irrelevant."

To you. Not to Microsoft.

kneon1132d ago

I don't think Fallon had a major impact on their decision. The real reason was that while Sony had apparently allocated many more units for day one release they were still selling out and having to allocate more.

The pre-orders were very much in Sony's favor and Microsoft could not afford to start too far behind, they have enough bad PR as it is.

MS was only fooling themselves

"This has been a business practice for many decades, and I highly doubt it will stop anytime soon."

Uhh.... thanks mr. journalist. Don't think it will end anytime soon? Wow. Your a genius. Thanks for your input.

I just can't believe how stupid and naive the gaming community is.

Would someone out there please take an objective approach to these issues.

BitbyDeath1132d ago (Edited 1132d ago )

Xbone still requires everyone to have an online connection, i'm starting to wonder if much has changed at all or if this is all just smoke and mirrors to get more pre-orders?

Dynasty20211132d ago

Technically it only needs to connect once (per game?), after that you don't need to connect.

But yeah, that still means you need an internet connection.

PS4 doesn't do any of that BS.

demonddel1132d ago

Sony was gonna do it but they backtrack to after Microsoft receive so much negative press for it don't be fooled kiddos

Geezus1132d ago (Edited 1132d ago )

actually its a one time connection at the initial set up to download a patch and then you can play offline forever. obviously if your playing an
all multiplayer game like titanfall your gunna need an internet conection and wont be able to play offline but thats really up to the game developer not MS

despair1132d ago

Most likely its just for the patch and most people will be all right with a one time connection and those without can hopefully get their systems by someone with internet to get the update (my friend did that all the time with me for PS3 firmware updates and patches).

They didn't pull a PR stunt here, it was reaction to either pressure from now worried Publishers, or seeing the negative reaction of potential customers vs the praise sony was getting (the $100 price difference made things even worse as well) that influenced the decision.

This makes them look bad no matter how you look at it, its the better strategy to sell systems (I know I preordered one after the news) but right now they are looking like clowns.

Parapraxis1132d ago

One time, to install a day one patch, which is VERY reasonable.

No_Limit1132d ago (Edited 1132d ago )

The patch is probably related to the Live dashboard update . The console being shipped within the next few months will not have the finalized version of the dashboard so that is why a patch is needed. It is really that simple. I bet PSN will also get an update on launch day to make sure every consoles get the latest firmware very similar to the Wii U launch.

SatanSki1132d ago

One connection when you first set up console.

I think the guy in the article has a point if you think about it.. Do you really think ms cares about us consumers? Because if they did they would never have added the drm and always online in the first place and also ms only cares about money well at least thats what their making it seem like.

Sony at leaat trying to be balance much possible as they can..

Sorry for my bad grammar

No_Limit1132d ago (Edited 1132d ago )

By your logic, Sony mandate PS owners that want to play online on PS4 to pay, do you think Sony cares about your well being as a gamer?

Bottomline, companies exist to please stock holders and make money, they react and switch strategy that fits the need of the company, nothing more, nothing less.

PositiveEmotions1132d ago

And you really think that?

You maybe right idk but the fact that jack tratton (i think thats his name) talks about how much he cares about his consumers and in my eyes and among others he has proving that he cares we asked him not to include no drm no always online and they listen among other things to name but those are the main request people had.

Also mark cerny helped make the console and he is a video game devo so might of been thinking how fans would want this and that.. I cant say mark cerny cares about us consumers but he might and jack tratton (again not sure if thats how u say his name) has proofing that he cares.

And just because what you said is also true it does not mean every employe/manager at sony doesnt care about the fans trust me im sure someone in the ps business cares about us and that same goes for xb but not the main guys anyways. As it seems like.
