Dear Microsoft, No Innovation – Thanks Internet

VGR: Congratulations, you did it! Now, instead of possibly getting the same ecosystem that Steam offered, like co-operative game purchases – that would allow you and friends to buy a game together for a discount, or publishers selling their games for like $10-$20 only weeks after they are released. We get the same 8 years all over again. But what does that mean for the console war?

Congratz to gamers for making this happen

"instead of possibly getting the same ecosystem that Steam offered...publishers selling their games for like $10-$20 only weeks after they are released"

The author clearly has no idea what he's talking about. A closed platform never in a million years would have gotten that.

Dee_912007d ago

didnt msft already say the games would be $60 ?

aviator1892007d ago

@dmarc

new games would be that much, as they are on steam.

HammadTheBeast2007d ago

Dumbest article I've read in a while.

But don't worry, Kinect and its always on mic/camera can listen to his problem.

Innovation indeed.

@OJ

PS4 preorders were also higher.

So, uhh, thank consumers, not "Teh PS fanbois"

Winter47th2007d ago

I think we all got Sony to thank for this. Xbox fanboys owe them that.

darkmonkey13x2007d ago

Xbox One games will be playable on any Xbox One console -- there will be no regional restrictions.

Honestly I'm prefer stick with DRM and Family Sharing, rather than no DRM but without innovation.

No region locked and no used games restriction is good though, but they should've make an offline mode rather than giving in to hater's complain

HammadTheBeast2007d ago

It is region locked still, both the console and the games.

BitbyDeath2006d ago

Why not get rid of DRM but keep family sharing?
PS3 can do it so no reason the Xbone can't.

Grave2007d ago

So does this mean the XBONE shall fail even harder than we thought??

andrewsqual2006d ago

Your welcome. Wait, I wasn't buying it anyway, I guess it was sore Xbox fans then.

I'm happy that consumers spoke loud and made MS change their policy

finbars752007d ago

It doesnt matter if they announced this.Im sorry but all the crap they pulled and all of a sudden they decide where going to backpedal like that tells me that they did this because preorders where terrible, but mark my words now they will have some stipulation down the road witht the xboxone.A company doesnt just fold there crads like that withought some reason that we dont know about. They where also saying that MS did this to boost preorders as well so another sign that MS isnt to be trusted. If you guys go back to MS after all the shit they pulled and said then your only asking to get burned in the end.Give it time you will see.

Donnieboi2007d ago

Xbox One is STILL 50% less powerful. Oh, and that crap about it getting better with time via cloud computation is something that Yoshida of Sony has said that Gaikai can also do for PS4.

Did I also mention the extra $100 cost for a 50% weaker console that won't even work in most of the world?

I see no advantage to getting an Xbone.

TXIDarkAvenger2007d ago

50% less powerful? LOL, where did you get that from? Yes, PS3 GPU is better but not by that much.

SilentNegotiator2007d ago (Edited 2007d ago )

Some people keep confusing Ps4 being 50% more powerful with the idea that Xbox is 50% LESS powerful.

Ps4 is 50% more powerful, meaning that it's a 2:3 ratio.

The math:
Xbox has 2 units of power, Ps4 has 2 units of power, plus 50%, leaving it with 3 units of power.

"PlayStation 4's 18 CU graphics core has 50 per cent more raw power than the GPU in the new Microsoft console"

--Eurogamer

monkey nuts2007d ago

Xbox 1: 1.2 terraflopulops
Ps4 : 1.8 terraflopulops.
In conclusion the ps4 has 600 gigaflopulops more computational power than its competitor. 600/1200 = 1/2 = 50%
I may be wrong but this is n4g, someone will point and make fun at my lack of knowledge in no time.

HammadTheBeast2007d ago

1.2 Tflops on Xbox One.

1.8 Tflops on PS4.

50%.

Not to mention GDDR5 > GDDR3

TXIDarkAvenger2007d ago

Meh, even if it is, you guys are acting like you will see a huge notable difference. PC master race laughs at you.

CaEsAr-2007d ago

Here we go again with pc nerds yelling "PC teh master race" blah blah blah, seriously enjoy your games and grow up.

BitbyDeath2006d ago

@Hammad,

Xbone has DDR3 RAM.

GDDR5 > GDDR3 > DDR3

Why won't it work in "most of the world"?

HammadTheBeast2007d ago

Everything is region locked, and its not sold in most places.

Azurite2007d ago

It's not region locked anymore, Micosoft changed their stance.

RedSoakedSponge2007d ago

where did you get this "50% weaker" statistic? i think youre exaggerating slightly lol.

LOGICWINS2007d ago

Besides being able to play Xbox One exclusives?

Blankolf2007d ago

Search in N4G and Google, you have a keyboard for what I can see, this has been said a million times...

But for people who can't seem to search:

Until we see the games, keep comments like this to yourself.

Azurite2007d ago

No, the Xbox One isn't 50% less powerful but the PS4 is 50% more powerful.

There's a mathematical difference ;)

Majin-vegeta2007d ago

Just get a PC if you want features like Steam has.

Kanzes2007d ago (Edited 2007d ago )

PC gaming is already dead, everything is mod-able that causing any achievements means nothing.

Relientk772007d ago

Restrictions gone

very good news for consumers and gamers
