TeamXbox writes: "You have to wonder why game companies continue to be so determined to make the real-time strategy genre a success on consoles. They've been trying for years without seeing the kind of popularity that titles like Command & Conquer or Starcraft have had on the PC cross over to the world of console games.
First, there was the issue of control – or, how do you keep the complexity and number of commands that you're capable of quickly executing on a mouse and keyboard work on a gamepad. That's been greatly improved as of late, including the control system developed for the game being reviewed here. But then there's also the issue of general appeal. Is the universe and the units and story and overall feel of the battles contained even interesting to begin with?
Then, there's the just the overall level of polish. Does the game look good, take advantage of the Xbox 360's graphical power and not just look like a muddy port of the original PC title it's based off of? Universe at War: Earth Assault really only gets two of those right, and the control system, while decent, leaves some major things to be desired. So 1.75 out of 3 isn't too bad, but it isn't great. This is not the game that will finally break through the RTS genre for the Xbox 360."
