Metal Gear Solid 5: Hideo Kojima’s quest for redemption

Hideo Kojima was never able to fully conceal the whiff of disappointment surrounding Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. “The original vision was to go ten steps further, the reality was just one step,” Kojima once saidfollow, hinting that his magnum opus was something of a dud. When it came time to bury the Metal Gear franchise, a sense of closure was missing. So, like any functional heroin addict, excuses were made, promises were broken and old habits became new again. The weepy creator stopped just short of the final nail in the coffin, and Metal Gear’s corpse was exhumed under the mantra “I can do better.” (Culture, Hideo Kojima)

Kojima will never be happy until games are indistinguishable from films
