"Those of you throwing the Gears sequels in my face have no idea how hard I fought for new IP at Epic after Gears 1. No idea."

Bimkoblerutso1136d ago (Edited 1136d ago )

Uh...yeah. Yeah, probably?

Wait, what?

DragonKnight1136d ago

"That's probably why there was no Epic at E3. New games need time."

I'm fluent in lazytyponese and bad english.

dcbronco1136d ago

Thanks for the translation Sister.

RickHiggity1136d ago

It's hard thinking for other people isn't it?

3-4-51136d ago

Gears of War is one of the most overrated games I've ever played.

It was actually the 2nd or 3rd I played and it was brown + light brown + 2 other shades of brown + grey and a splash of color everywhere.

It was fun for like 10 minutes then just got old.

I'm not against games like this but it's shinning example of what we don't need more of in the industry.

SilentNegotiator1136d ago (Edited 1136d ago )

Gears is not overrated. It has its problems, especially a lot with multiplayer, but the campaign modes are always good (can't comment on Judgment, which I hear isn't exactly great) with worthy AI and well designed levels.

BattleAxe1136d ago

Realists will always tell you what you need to hear, not what you want to hear. Gears was a mediocre 3rd person shooter, nothing more, nothing less.

Eyeco1136d ago

Gears 1 was great Gears 2 was dreadful at least now it is , its aged rather poorly, Gears 3 was a very good game and Judgement is just meh, Not an overrated series but its definitely not as hot as it used to be.

Lvl_up_gamer1136d ago

I know what you mean.

I feel the same way about the Uncharted series. Seems all Nathan does is fall then climb, fall then climb, fall....well you get the the picture.

BlaqMagiq241136d ago

@ Lvl up

Troll harder bro

SilentNegotiator1136d ago (Edited 1136d ago )

@Lvl_up_gamer

When you play Uncharted, Drake keeps falling?
Sounds like you just really suck at the game to me.

@influxity

Don't use that disgusting, empty phrase. See how I provided reasons why Gears is not overrated, instead of just brushing the guy off by calling him a "hater"? Took me 10 seconds.

NumOnePS3FanBoy1136d ago

I think halo is AAAA LOOOOOT MORE overrated for sure.

mediate-this1136d ago

Gears is a great game, you take it for what it is, a muscle bound shoot em up. which is fun. very tactical online too.

JeffGUNZ1135d ago

Gears 1 multiplayer was one of the most competitive and addicting experiences this generation. Gears 2 and 3 never met those expectations, but the original was a godsend of competitive online.

Admitting to fighting for new IPs?

I guess he's given up on getting a position at EA.

NYC_Gamer1136d ago

He doesn't know what side of the fence he wants to play within the industry

ZodTheRipper1136d ago (Edited 1136d ago )

He seems like he just likes to talk a lot. I'd wish that some other people in this industry would be this chatty, but not him.

Blackdeath_6631136d ago

Lol, so true. while i don't like or agree with cliff.B almost 90% of the time i do appreciate that he is willing to talk and discuss topics with an honest opinion rather than PR gibberish.

Bimkoblerutso1136d ago

He's just the worst kind of social media spammer. He tries so hard to accumulate indie cred by saying things like this, and then even when he's technically "indie," he still comes out with statements backing big-business models.

Like yall suggested. He just talks to talk.

Mainsqueeze1136d ago (Edited 1136d ago )

I feel like ppl will bash this guy no matter what he says. Lol he says he wanted new IP's and all you guys can do is insult. imho its the supposed gamers on this site that dont know what side of the fence they want to play on.

DragonKnight1136d ago

He's with Oculus Rift because he's funding it and thinks everyone thinks it's the best peripheral ever. That's the one thing he'll be consistent on.

Whitey2k1136d ago

it would only be a an xbone title hes a xbox fanboy

The Meerkat1136d ago

Once Sony take 75%+ of the next gen Epic will follow the money and we'll see Gears on the PS4.

Maybe it will even look like Epics famous bullshots.

Sam Fisher1136d ago

F$&k epic, they can stay with xbox, youre not missing anything special with gears, im sorry but blez boy needs to stfu and cry in a corner, the game that was really good was gears 1, after that everything went to shit, naughty dog made a contender and that is last of us, and they murdered every third person cover shooter out there with this monster, so let epic stay m$, they need to die together

Thunderhawkxbox1136d ago

U do need to get a life not in million years microsoft will let gears come to ps4 and not in million year ps4 will take 75% of next generatin tbh someone need to wake u up I Think u having long Dream Sony fan boy

Eddie201011136d ago (Edited 1136d ago )

Don't really want to see gears on PS4, it's no where near being a classic franchise other than it had some amazing graphics, that's all. It would be nice to see something really different from Gears Of War from Epic.

Sorry cliff but your a really big attention whore.

frostyhat1231135d ago

The fact that this comment has 19 agrees makes me want to leave this site so badly.

It is very hard to pitch a new IP to company especially coming off a huge, successful IP like Gears. Most companies want to strike while the iron is hot.

I definitely believe Cliff as most producers in the industry always want to make something new.

DragonKnight1136d ago

Gears was a new IP, so it's probably not that difficult.

maniacmayhem1136d ago

Yes it was which is why Epic wanted to turn out a sequel to that game instead of another new IP.

DragonKnight1136d ago

Before Gears was Unreal Tournament though. Far more recognized than Gears at the time. So, it's not really that difficult. Just depends on the timing.

maniacmayhem1136d ago

Again, true. But then look at how many Unreal(s) there were before Gears even came out.

Cliff was also the producer/designer for Unreal so you have to imagine how long it took him to get the green light for Gears.

And if I am not mistaken I thought I read that Gears was suppose to be another Unreal spin off type of game.
I thought I read that somewhere I could be wrong.

DragonKnight1136d ago

I suppose it's different from developer to developer. I mean, Naughty Dog for example aren't afraid to make both sequels and new IP's in the same generation. I suppose it also depends on how big the developer is too.

maniacmayhem1136d ago

It is definitely different from dev to dev. But as you said, ND had to turn out 3 Uncharted (plus a Vita version) before they could turn all their attention to the Last of Us.

Cliff had to make three Gears (or two ??) before Bulletstorm could be fully worked on and completed.

Let's hope this new generation takes more risks and gives us new IP's that are on par or even exceeds games like Uncharted and Gears.

rainslacker1136d ago

Epic is more a engine developer than a game developer. Despite their size, and the amount of money they have, they aren't working on several titles at a time. Typically their games are made to showcase the engine(Unreal Tournament in particular).

They do make games of course, but it isn't anywhere close to the efforts they put into their engine.

I'm personally kind of disappointed they focused so much on Gears this gen. They have some creative devs there, but I understand their reasons for doing so. It's hard to give up practically free money, and they are no more guilty of milking a franchise than any other dev this gen.
