Nintendo Can Solve All Its Wii U Problems With Metroid

Gameinformer - It's no secret that Nintendo hasn't been as financially successful these last few months as it has been historically. In order to help the beloved company turn things around, let me propose a solution to its financial struggles: Metroid. Hear me out on this.

While I agree that sticking with consistent releases can help if marketed right, Metroid Prime kind of killed the series momentum after 1 with number two, which was just way too hard for some people. Then 3 came out after many had written the series off, but it still sold better than 2. Finally, after regaining a little bit of momentum with Prime 3, they released Other M, a forced effort to try and take the series away from what people had grown accustomed to.

Instead of a new game or trilogy that kept and built on the Prime mechanics, and found a way to integrate a vs FPS multiplayer mode, they fled from all of it completely.

Now we have Wii U, where such a game would be more expensive than ever for them to develop, and they can't really test the waters with an HD remake because they released the Trilogy collection not long ago at all.

And so we have Retro, releasing another new Donkey Kong game and taking 3 years to do it... A great game that I look forward to owning. But it says a lot about Nintendo's current set of circumstances. They have to go after the sure money right now.

I bet Nintendo's wishing they had made a Metroid 64. The HD remake could've been that.

I agree with you, I'm really looking forward to getting Tropical Freeze, played it at Best Buy today.

Okay, that is a good argument. MP2 was tough - I loved that game, but yeah. I always thought 3 killed the series with all the (living) other characters, setting the stage for the Other M debacle. Fusion and Zero Mission were as good as it's been so far to me - if only they'd just make a new one in that format! Maybe a new 3ds sprite-based side scroller, or a much higher-res one on WiiU.

New Metroid that doesn't suck and a Kirby FPS.

A Kirby first-person sucker? I still dream of a day where I hear the words "Kirby's Dream Course 2," but I'm weird like that.

Retro we all want Metroid Prime 4

But has Metroid really ever been that big of a title for them? Seems like Zelda and Mario are the two big franchises, and others like Metroid are distant thirds.
