Ryse hands-on preview | Thunderbolt

Nick Vracar, Thunderbolt writes:
In video form this game was disconcerting. It was a technical marvel, but its actual gameplay appeared creatively bankrupt. QTEs were tossed about the screen liberally, followed up by the frequent close-up of a successful kill. Whatever fun the game might have been was lost in translation.

The demo opened up in the same manner as the video. Marius Titus was on board a ship on stormy waters declaring cliches to his men. Every man dies one death! Our enemies bleed blood! And then he led the charge off the side of the boat, just as it moved onto the beach. (E3, Ryse: Son of Rome, Xbox One)

Also apparently there is a hardcore mode where all button prompts and slow-down are turned off, would love to see a gameplay demo of the hardcore mode to see fluid it is.

Ya I wasn't sold on this. Bad demo based on what was said after about the game. It's apparently not all QTE. I hope it is good, I like Crytec, this and dead rising are the only x1 games I'm interested in.

-Yeah hardcore sounds more like my cup of tea....or shot of liquor depending my mood.

"In the hardcore mode of this game, it takes those quick prompts right out, and you must aim to complete the quick-time events without the tool of seeing what button to press, instead, you look at what you character is doing and try to figure out what you need to use, either your sheild or sword."

-This is promising also:

"In truth it played a lot like the recent Batman games, but more viscerally so. The camera was closer up and Marius didn’t behave like a pinball as he moved between attacks. It was a balance between attacking and countering."

I'm secretly hoping this game will arrive on other platforms. I've always been a humongous fan of Spartan: Total Warrior and Viking: Battle for Asgard. This game is like the love child I've been waiting for all my life.

Didn't you see it running on a PC at the E3 conference? Nothing to worry about.

So, you're the guy who pre-ordered an Xbox One. It's lovely to meet you. ^_^

Looks awesome. But I'm a huge Ancient Rome guy, so it's my cup of tea.
I'm getting a ps4 so hopefully I can get this in my PC.
