Oh. That’s Why Microsoft chose to go with that Design for Xbox One?

SchollA from Console ControllUs pronounced console-control-us writes:
The jokes have not stopped regarding Microsoft's latest next-gen console, Xbox One. Especially now that Sony has revealed theirs -- although Sony's next-gen console (PS4) kind of looks like a Xbox One Junior; with the choice and all to go with the combination of matte and glossy material, albeit a little more fashionable.

Xbox One has been associated with everything from old school hardware and technology to kitchen appliances! I've read things like it reminds gamers of a DVD player, VCR, Cable box, air conditioner...lmboo AIR CONDITIONER? I even heard refrigerator, wow! All these non-flattering adjectives have been used to describe Microsoft's next-gen console. But then the explanation.

”Its design has to make an appropriate statement that reflects its capability as an all-in-one entertainment system.”

“The console and Kinect sensor are liquid black so they melt into the background when being used, allowing the content on your TV to dominate the living room.”

Wow and they come up with an Air Conditioner? Unbelievable.

lol it still looks like a VCR though, regardless of the fact that there are no buttons on the front, the same boxy design is there, with the exact same shape:

People really exaggerate the aesthetics of the One. No doubt due to the loud outcry against what it represents and the console itself. I hate the Xbox One but I don't think it looks as horrible and bulky as most people make it out to be. This 'VCR' comparison is tossed around a lot and I find it the most bizarre. Having grown up in the days of the VCR and having owned several different makes and models I can honestly say I never saw one that even remotely resembled the Xbox One. Their comparison ends with them both being rectangles. Still hate it, just not because of its appearance.

Unrelated note: anyone else stunned at how small the PS4 is? Sony has this habit of releasing a "bulky" launch console and then making a slim version a few years later. I swear the PS4 looks to be the same size as my PS3 Slim. Going to be interesting to see if they still manage to pull off another slim-down though. Remember how thin they managed to get the PS2?

MonkeyNinja1641d ago

It is small. And I love it! Don't know how they managed though.

note: the second pic is to scale using the dimensions given in the product description of XBone/ps4

I wonder if the power supply on the XBONE will still be the size of a toaster.

Very odd quotes considering you can not upgrade the internal HDD. So if you want more space you will have to have a external HDD sitting with the xbox1.

The trapezoid look makes it look like some kind of alien tech from a Sci Fi movie. I am loving it.

I had a beta max machine that looked like the Xbox One,
Just saying.

CRAIG6671641d ago

I am not in slightest bit suprised people love the PS4 design after the PS3(UGLIEST THING EVER) almost anything would look nice, I actually have my PS3 hidden incase one of the neighbours see it...

medman1641d ago

You say the PS3 was ugly, but at least it had a design. The 360 is a rectangle. That does not take any ingenuity whatsoever. At least Sony put in an effort with the PS3. And their design of the PS4 is impressive, considering it's power advantage over the Xbox One while being smaller, sleeker, and sexier. Sony engineers did all this and still manage to fit the power supply, you know, INSIDE THE CONSOLE! Enjoy your next gen version power brick. New console, same ol' brick. Hope this one doesn't melt the way the last one did. Who am I kidding? I hope it lights itself aflame.

CRAIG6671641d ago

whatever dude, it's all just a matter of taste, in all honesty the PS4 is actually worse than the PS3, looks wise but it'sall subjective, and what's it really matter, it's what's inside that counts...
Trying to argue that the PS3 is better looking than console whatever because company (A) but in more effort than company (B)... dude grow up, what I said was firmly tongue in cheek!!!
IDIOT.

Ezz20131641d ago (Edited 1641d ago )

with all the problems Xbox1 have....
the console Design is the last thing any one should care about now

abzdine1641d ago

the biggest PROBLEM is that MS doesn't see those problems as a problem!
"we know what is good for you, take it and shut up"

Greatness awaits
