505 Development Studios Working on the PS4: What We Know and What We Don’t

A few days ago Sony Computer Entertainment released an official fact sheet for the PS4. Many, blinded by the price, the specs, the #NoDRM celebrations and the Xbox One mudslinging, didn’t notice a very relevant detail mentioned at the bottom of the release:
"PS4 has earned great support from a wide variety of game publishers, including many indie developers. Since February 2013, the number of developers joining has increased from 126 to 505."

Here's a detailed analysis of what we know and what we don't about that staggering number of studios.

What we know??it means lots of games for the PS4 and for me to spens my money on.Leta hope there are RPGS in there :D

Abriael1928d ago

Haha, yeah, we do know that. I'm more hoping that a lot of those JRPGs actually get localized.

I keep on saying it. They have more ammunition, so many games to be announced. Come on, Jack Trenton saying that PS4 would have 20 first party games in its first year and only announcing 4, only confirms that their next conference (TGS, GC) would be huge with games, and being close to the release date of the system, surely that would be an immense driving factor to bring more gamers to buy PS4.

Abriael1928d ago

@US8F: I only hope that they'll use as much as that ammunition as they can in the west as well.

US8F1928d ago

@Abriael; I'm with you on that one. Trust me, Jack Trenton said 20 first party games in the press conference to the west. That is not counting second and third party games.

It's just that time really goes slow when you are waiting for something, Lol.

PS2 glory days...yeah baby yeah!
It's very apparent in the PS4's design and their mentality, let TGS/GamesCom come already.

That's awesome...and then dangerous, somewhat. How will they all survive? I guess Sony will have troubles building enough machines to keep up selling them. OTHO, I guess the indie way with self publishing is the way to go. Works on iOS. Why not on a console. Big guns will get in troubles, no doubt about it. But I hope we will all be a happy family eventually. Devs, pubs and gamers.

Abriael1928d ago (Edited 1928d ago )

Oh don't worry. There's never too many games. The PS2 demonstrated that.

Ju1928d ago

Not from a consumer perspective, no. But from a dev perspective, yes.

What this means is yea there will be 20-30 games initially, but year 2-3 there is going to be a swarm of awesome new games both Large and indie.

What I love about indies are the fact that they are cheap and can turn me on to some devs I might not have even known about. When a gem does get made its fun to know that the studio will grow and that I got to try them out when they were still small.

Games like Journey are a perfect example. If they made a full fledged title I might have passed thinking it was a kids game. But playing the original I got to see how well made and fun it really was. Now I will buy from them again.

Ha, when I read the headline I thought it was referring to the 505 Games studio lol

Abriael1928d ago

haha, I knew someone would have thought about that :D

wenaldy1928d ago

IL Sturmovik on PS4 please :)

3-4-51928d ago

omg yes.

I'd rather have Crimson Skies...but Microsoft doesn't seem to understand that IP's awesomeness so this is the next best thing ( better in a lot of ways..just less fun ).

strigoi8141928d ago

Yup PS2 days are coming back

TesMgsFan1928d ago

Yeah sort of. If Crash Bandicoot makes a return then the old days will come back ;)
