No cross-platform play for Smash Bros on 3DS and Wii U

Joystiq:

The Wii U and 3DS versions of the new Super Smash Bros. will not feature cross-platform play, director of Sora Ltd. Masahiro Sakurai tells Joystiq. Since each version of the game has completely different stages, cross-platform play wouldn't work, he told us through an interpreter. Each version will interact with one another, however, as announced back in 2011. Specifically, players will be able to take characters they've customized and transfer them to the Wii U version. (3DS, Super Smash Bros., Wii U)

I really like the idea of customizing the characters on the 3DS version and then putting them on the wiiu version. This really makes me want to buy both verison!

How much they paying you?
gamer42  +   692d ago
well, I'm sorry if I come off as a paid off commentator, but those are my true thoughts on this. I like the idea of finally being able to customize my characters the way I want to. I am sad cross play isn't implemented, but this, I feel, makes up for it.

Why did you get so offended? It's only hypothetical and the Idea is REALLY COOL! You can't just close off a certain idea, because you don't like the way it's implemented.
ABizzel1  +   691d ago
Nintendo and Sony need to partner up talk about match made in heaven.

Sony provides the tech and builds the consoles while, Nintendo focus on games and the handheld (although Sony still provide the tech for it as well).

They would do it just to troll Microsoft. =P
Hadoukameha  +   692d ago
That'd be epic with crossplay.
kirbyu  +   692d ago
So, those this mean the 3DS version will let you make your own characters?

That would be awesome!
gamer42  +   692d ago
I think this means that the character on the 3DS versions will have stats you can improve upon and then upload those improved stats onto the Wii U version.
kirbyu  +   692d ago
It's not just that, I don't want a Super Smash Bros. game to have half of its roster be characters I hate.
coolasj  +   692d ago
This is a severe disappointment.
deafdani  +   692d ago
This news actually makes me happy, because that means that each Smash will have its unique flavor and exclusive stuff, differentiating them from each other.

Basically, we will be getting more bang for our buck this way, should we buy both versions.

:)
Hadoukameha  +   692d ago
This is the second worst news on the games, right after Sakurai explicitly stating that we will practically "never" see a SSB as competitive as Melee. No news is worse than that but this is close.

Bright side? No tripping.

Why? We're practically getting two Smash games this time, instead ofnjust one. To me it sounds like they're trying to make both games similar enough to allow some kind of integration between the two (although not cross-play), but different enough as to actually feel like two different games. I'm liking what I'm reading here.

As for the competitive side of things Sakurai has already confirmed that they're trying to find a middle ground between Melee and Brawl, gameplay wise. No tripping as already been confirmed, and if you look at gameplay videos, it definitely looks like it plays faster than Brawl.

I have a feeling these 2 Smash games will be damn good. There's a chance of them actually being the best yet. :)
Hadoukameha  +   690d ago
But I don't want two SSB, I'd rather they did it similar to PSALBR. It's just down to personal preference I guess.

As for the middle-ground between Brawl/Melee, I'd rather they actually made it more of core title than Melee was, but at least as much as Melee. Brawl was a competitive disaster, being anywhere near it, let alone the middle, is too close for me.
