3DS version of Super Smash Bros could hold back the Wii U version

Masahiro Sakurai has confirmed that characters in the Wii U version of Smash Bros will be "reduced" so that they can pull off all the same moves and content on the 3DS's hardware. Gimme Gimme Games writes about how this worries them and how it makes them wish the two games were developed separately instead of together.

For goodness sake, then they shouldn't of done a handheld version then. The 3DS has plenty of games now, they could of done a handheld version futher down the line.

How disappointing

I honestly don't care about a 3DS version of Smash..Heck I don't care about the 3DS at all. No disrespect to those that do.

This is incredibly frustrating. I see next to no point for a 3DS version to follow so closely to its console counterpart. If anything, one should attempt to capture the console version's gameplay at a handheld level. As opposed to a console version having to reduce its content to satisfy the limitations of its handheld version.

The 3DS overall is a great handheld, but it's simply not powerful enough...

It's funny, because if you look at Fire Emblem Awakening, the game truly seems like it could have a competitive edge against the Vita.

@Murad - Fire Emblem is definitely my favorite 3DS title that I've played. The game itself is magnificent, but it doesn't really do much on the 3DS that it couldn't do on say the Vita. The 3D effects are kinda cool on it, but they really messed with my eyes if I used them for more than about 10-15 minutes.

Yeah, the Wii U-version will be the obvious choice for just about everyone who's going to play offline. I mean, what kind of family owns four 3DS-units? And I don't really know that many friends who owns a 3DS

It happened to psabr too. I am officially going to get a Wii u for mk8. However smash does not look any better graphically than psabr.

You guys are looking at it from the wrong angle. Reducing the amount of characters doesn't hold back anything anything. If anything, it could make balancing the game a lot easier.

I don't care about having 100 characters in the game. 25-30 is plenty. I care about balance more than sheer about of characters.

The less time they spend on making characters is the more time they spend on balancing the game, working on the online mode, and perfecting the extra modes.

And for those saying there shouldn't be a 3DS version....that's just silly. The 3DS is the fastest selling console ever. Nintendo would be stupid not to put the game on 3DS. So many people are going to buy both versions.

He wasn't talking about the number of characters, he meant their abilities and moveset.

They'll make more money, thus they'll do it. Super Smash on the move sounds pretty fun to me.
