3 Reasons The New Xbox Will Underperform

Since its blockbuster release in 2005, Microsoft’s (NASDAQ: MSFT) Xbox 360 stood as a staple in both the family room and the college dorm. However, Microsoft’s strong grasp on the gaming market might be slipping due to recent trends. The culprit? There are three.

I can think of 4, 5, 6 and 7 but these are good. :)

Also the fact that this console won't appeal to a true worldwide audience with it's restrictions while Sony and Nintendo will. They will be third.

The New Xbox is already dead just stop beating the dead horse..

"might be slipping"

understatement of the decade.

I'm 50/50 on this...so it's a Yes and a No.

Reason being, it's my opinion that there are enough uneducated gamers out there to support Xbox One...whilst those with the ability to reason objectively, won't. Unfortunately, the former outweighs the latter.

You're on N4G...just take a look around at the comments. Astonishingly, many have chosen to defend and still purchase the console regardless.

It's exactly how Gov. can get away with introducing more taxes, whilst many object, there's a whole bunch of idiots that pay up!

"It's exactly how Gov. can get away with introducing more taxes, whilst many object, there's a whole bunch of idiots that pay up!"

...seriously? You saying we face prison time if we don't purchase an xbox one? wow those things are either going to fly of the shelves or the prison system is really going to buckle?

'...seriously? You saying we face prison time if we don't purchase an xbox one? wow those things are either going to fly of the shelves or the prison system is really going to buckle?'

Do you take everything in life so literally??....it was a metaphoric statement..and they can't send the entire united population to jail if they refuse to pay taxes!

Relax man, it's just a debate :)

I'm sorry but people on here make out as if purchasing the X1 is akin to committing a crime against the industry. Simple put, some users feel that drawbacks of the X1 are not a cause for concern for them (or the indsutry for that matter. There is nothing 'astonishing' about it.

Let's be objective here; this is N4G, and this is, and has been, for several years, a predominantly Sony-centric website. The comments on N4G do not represent that of the gaming world. I know that the criticisms are stemming from a lot of different gaming sites too, but they will be blown out of proportion on this site far more than most others.

If people want to buy the X1, that's fine. Ignoring its faults, its a decent piece of kit. It has a really promising library of games, it will have great third party support and if you're a gamer who likes games, there's nothing to suggest that you enjoy owning the X1.

Microsoft feel that they are moving the industry forward and that remains to be seen. At the moment, any criticisms and concerns are justified simply because this is a big change in the industry and we have the right to be naturally suspicious of it, especially considering the restrictive nature of these policies. However, there is a possibility that the system can be beneficial for example; we might see benefits in terms of extremely competitive pricing ala Steam.

At this moment in time, its important for us to vote with our wallets and put that pressure on Microsoft. Yes, this essentially means buying a PS4 (although not just for the reason above). I know that's what I'm doing.

CRAIG6671641d ago

Ok that's fair enough, I respect your train of thought, and you are certainly not alone.

I myself see great possibility's, and great exclusives, I also see Sony heading in the same direction regardless of what is said on this site,we are not the one's(hardcore gamers) who will determine the future policies of giant corporations,if there is any power outside that of the shareholders it's the mass market-the casual's and guess what, the majority of those don't care.

I have been using steam since 2008, I am a custom to not being able to re-sell or share my games collection,to me this is just Microsoft slowly catching up with the rest of the gaming market(cellphones, ipads,Google andoid, steam etc)

But the good news is unlike steam we WILL be able to share our games(for free with up to ten people) and we WILL be able to resell our disc based games too...

Regardless of all the negativity from fanboys on BOTH sides of the fence,I will purchase both next gen consoles, I will probably wait for the first price drop on the PS4 though as I have already pre ordered the X1 and forza5 will keep me going for a while...

Driveclub looks immense too,If that's definatley a launch title I may have to forget about waiting for the first price drop...

So you calling me an idiot because I want the xbox one? Used games and always online do not effect me and probably many others yet we are still idiots? I think you need to step of the hate trend that everyone on this site is riding. .

SexyGamerDude1641d ago

I think you need to look around... It's not just this site.

No, I am not directly calling you an idiot, but don't wish it upon yourself :)

@SexyGamerDude

'I think you need to look around... It's not just this site'

I merely referenced N4G because we're on this particular site, commenting on this particular issue...tbh, it could have been any site. So I'll agree on that :)

Look, at the end of the day, all of these anti consumer policies should not be accepted. Is this really the way you want gaming to go? All these nonsense restrictions? What they are doing isn't right, they are trying to make it where you don't even own your property anymore.
