Sony's Shuhei Yoshida said recently that the idea of transitioning from disc-based games to all digital isn't going to happen soon and that the PS4 is based on the idea of still using game discs as the main method of acquiring games.
Thank god.I always prefer Physical over digital cuz i feel like.I actually own the the item.
^exactly. i love having copies of old games like Vortex, Killer instinct, and Paper Mario for example, because it makes me fee good to have them. I don't think we're ready for an all-digital era in gaming and won't be for quite a while.
they arent going all digital just as Ms isnt going all digital either. Both play physical games but both will also offer their catalog in digital form to the individuals that support that idea. We may not be all digital until some time in the future but we are going that direction. digital represents too much of a convenience to simply ignore. the only way for it to fail is if there are so many restrictions imposed that completely turn people off the idea. Yet the popularity of digital music and digital movies and digital games shows the trend is only growing not receding.
@darth what are you talking about? The xbone DOES NOT USE PHYSICAL MEDIA TO PLAY GAMES... its an installation disc nothing else The ps4 runs games off of the disc, complete ddifference to microsofts plans.. plus if has gaikai for digital distribution if it needs to
i meant to type use not play.
@Majin-vegeta And having the option to sell/trade.
It is really cool to look at the collection and remember when you bought/played!
going digital is a better way of doing things than enforcing drm i wouldn't be surprised if we see psn evolve throughout this gen assuming ps4 and ps+ become a massive success
Agreed we are not ready for 100% digital
Actually considering how MS are doing things, with online especially, they may as well of done an all digital console.
" an 'overnight' to all digital gaming is 'too extreme' " True, but this is a dark future.
Call me ol' fashioned but I love having a pile of game cases with manuals and beautiful art cover, Bluray game covers are so sexy!
Sony continues to show that they have learned so much this gen, after stumbling at the outset. They've gradually come into their own again, and are reaping positive mindshare is rewarding their patience. Anecdotal, the gamestops at my store has 7 X1s pre-ordered. This same store has 30 ps4s pre-ordered.
To be fair, someone has to make that serious push if this supposed "all-digital" future truly is what will happen. Microsoft, however, is making that push in all the wrong ways.
Remember what Sony said Early this Generation? "The Generation of gaming starts and finishes when we say it does", not them exact words but close to that. So It'll be Sony that will push the Whole digital thing when they're ready...LOL( and They aren't ready. MS is the Pack of Hyenas thinking there the Kings of the Jungle, Sony is the Lion pride putting The pack of Hyenas in there place. This really happened on the Discovery channel LOL, Pack of Hyenas attacked a Lion pride and was harassing them, chasing them etc...then after awhile 3 Huge male Lions came in....Chased them all off and killed 1. Sony is still the King of this Jungle.
They already are taking steps with the PS3 and having many titles be day one digital as well as disc based. I generally buy all my games as physical copies but with PS Plus I have gotten to download a lot of games I have wanted to play but couldn't afford. I also just bought the digital copy of Playstation All Stars.Eventually yes I do see it being all digital but at least it won't be any time soon. MS thought really is pushing hard for nothing but digital by requiring all games to be installed and the stupid 24 hour check in. Maybe they will get a clue and stop it but I doubt that very much.
i wouldnt mind buying digital if they didnt cost the same or even more than the physical disk. but yeah you cannot force people to adopt a new tech when they haven't all got the infrastructure that allows the change to be a easy transition
Thats what they said about all digital Music. Where is Tower Records now?
You still own your digital music..I can do what I want with mine and thats 1 of the main issues here. As it stands ive got more rights to my digital music than ms will permit you to have with your physical games......no indication of their versions being cheaper either
I don't mind if all games can be bought in digital form but they should never get rid of physical copies. Motorola RAZR i
Hey man, how does it feel to have the option to comment more than once (again) lol ;)) Anyway I agree that, physical copies should never go away. I still collect Cd´s of certain artists and I buy Blu-ray movies, even vinyls have made a comeback.
sony learnt it the hard way with psp go.
It should be the buyers choice on what format to opt for. Right now if you buy a full retail game as a digital format you can't sell it or even exchange should decide it's not for you so until that's dealt with so both options offer the same choices the physical product is the better option. Hopefully UK law (and European) is set to change all this but it's needed worldwide.
I love digital on pc but consoles should always be disc based.
Digital or Physical idc as long as i get my ps4 game :)
now thats the perfect balance, have both equally available for consumers, rather than prioritizing one over the other as MS
do both,it's good to have options but when you try to force something on to people they will from a rebellion.x1 will sell but MS has already lost before the x1 even launch.i'm such a fanboy,oh'well!
