The Last Guardian Will Release Someday And It'll Be Incredible

In this week's Default Settings column, writer Alex Carlson yearns for the artistic majesty of The Last Guardian and explains why The Last Guardian will not succumb to the vaporware curses of Duke Nukem Forever or Daikatana.

"The Last Guardian is something of an outlier in the long-running trend of development hell games. It has a significant advantage over other games with similar vaporware complications like Daikatana, Aliens: Colonial Marines and Duke Nukem Forever. Even moving away from Western games in this field, looking at other games like Final Fantasy XV (a game many thought was dead barely months after its revealing) and Shenmue III, The Last Guardian still has one very large advantage that near-ensures its exceptional quality once it goes gold."

Would love another trailer to see how the game is shaping up.

I think Jack Tretton officially said the development of the game was "on hold" a few days ago

SpiralTear1113d ago

President of Sony Worldwide Studios Shuhei Yoshida says otherwise.

Tretton never stated it was on hold; Yoshida confirmed recently that development is on-going. They decided not to show it again; due to their choice. Development never stopped; the game was obviously bumped to PS4. You don't magically convert every asset in the game to versions 16 times better; that takes a hell of a lot of time. You also can't show a game with half next-gen/half current-gen assets. The art director would kill you.

Dude, you actually believe this game hasn't been cancelled...lol Not even a new trailer has been shown. This game won't be released.

Everyone said the same thing about FFXIIIVs that became FFXV. So never say, never even if the game is still in vaporware status.

"If you visit Japan Studio there are lots of people working on it. But as [designer Fumito Ueda] shared with people a couple of months ago, we really want to be confident next time when we introduce The Last Guardian to the public, so we are waiting for that time to come."

Oops, sorry xbot. You're wrong.

Will it? Will it actually release someday? It's been such a damn tease for so long now..

Belking1113d ago

That game is vaporware and sony knows it.

So was Versus XIII until the conference...

It's only been 4 years. Wait for it. Maybe the PS3 isn't able to handle and render all that gryffoncat thing's fur properly. Cerny said PS4 makes development a year shorter. It's more than likely moved to PS4 a few months ago, and if we're lucky, will make it to TGS.

*side note: it's been a little over 4 years since it was announced at E3 2009? How time flies... Still, if the game has moved on PS4 to make development easier and include better details and graphics and animations, I'd happily wait for just a bit more time.

" I'd happily wait for just a bit more time."

Like you have a choice in the matter....lol I still think this game will be cancelled because the creator left the studio. Without him it's a done deal.

Yoshida (you know, the guy in charge of all of Playstation's games) confirmed that it is still in development.
