PS4 Includes 500GB Hard Drive, DualShock 4 Is $60

A tidbit that went unmentioned at Sony’s press conference was the size of the internal hard drive in PS4. That’s now confirmed to be 500GB according to an SCEI press release that just hit the wires.

sweet. DS4 isnt expensive at all.

Nightfallen3965d ago

I expected 69.99-79.99. Good stuff. Also very fair hard drive. Hope it is upgradable similar to the PS3.

Gandalf3965d ago

Same. I have a 1tb in my PS3 right now. Hopefully i could just use it for the PS4.

Hatsune-Miku3965d ago

ps4 first day. i cant wait. ps4 destroys the xbox one

WhittO3965d ago (Edited 3965d ago )

Since you are not FORCED to install EVERY game onto the hardrive, 500gb should be more than enough for me..

PS3 owners have dealt with game installs with bluray for years and will know - even with these bigger games - you prob don't need more than 100gb for your entire gaming library (on average).

But then I will fill it with music and movies haha

aCasualGamer3965d ago

Pretty sure the DS4 will become cheaper as time goes by.

Rainstorm813965d ago

its an Ok HDD but i hope its upgradeable 500GB will go fast in the Next Gen

My current 320GB HDD is nearly full now

aCasualGamer3965d ago

@Rainstorm81

Don't worry, you don't have to install all your games on the HDD like Xbox One. If you do want to install your games, i'm pretty certain Sony will allow custom HDD, since that's what they did with PS3.

darthv723965d ago

i swear sony and ms were passing notes in class this year.

The two are so similar in specs and design and almost everything that it makes you wonder if the 3rd parties will press only 1 disc that is playable on both.

That would be one hell of a convenience. Doubtful but still...

@acasual, while we can assume you should be able to upgrade the hdd, they could have changed that policy on the ps4 and made the system accept usb external hdd's. Nothing wrong with adding another hdd instead of replacing. I'd like them to make installs to the hdd as an option.

Gamehead363965d ago

darth, you really have been doing a lot of damage control my man...

come on now, the specs really are not comparable

darthv723965d ago

lets compare

both have 8 core custom amd cpu
both have custom amd gpu
both have 500gb hdd
both have new hd camera
both have 8gb of system ram
both will have a bluray drive for games/movies
both will offer enhanced media features and social integrations.

Not being specific here but its crazy how similar these two are in design. I mean the differences are not snes vs genesis or 2600 vs saturn (if you want to get that extreme).

i thought the ps3 and 360 were closely matched but now...someone was selling secrets. Maybe AMD leaked info to both sides since they were the common denominator.

No damage control....why think that in the 1st place? This is just putting 2 and 2 together in a very basic comparison.

Boody-Bandit3965d ago

Pre-ordered 2 PS4's tonight.
I'm set for next gen.

Biggest3965d ago (Edited 3965d ago )

darthv72 says:

"Not being specific here but its crazy how similar these two are in design."

Why would you be specific? Specificity would destroy your point. Think of it this way. A banana and a school bus are both yellow. Very similar, eh?

The PCUs are different. The GPUs are different. The RAM is different. They may both be yellow, but one of them can run around and through the other.

darthv723965d ago

i know why you are trying to make that comparative but its the wrong comparative.

Im sure you have heard the phrase apples to oranges. People often use that as a way to say things are different but what they dont realize is that besides the obvious of one is an apple and the other an orange, both are more similar than they are different.

the ps4 and xbox 1 are more similar than they are different. That is the only point i was making. Your comparative of banana to school bus would be more akin to saying the ps4 and original NES. In that respect the differences outweigh the similarities.

JohnS13133965d ago

"both have 8gb of system ram"

But the PS4 has GDDR5 RAM while the Xbox One has DDR3 RAM. There's a big difference there.

It's 5 dollars more. I can do that.

dc13965d ago

Yep. This just confirmed (Hope my pockets are ready) Day One: 1PS4, 1 Extra Controller and 2 Games.

Looking forward to this.

Reverent3965d ago

Sony charging us to play online now hurts me a little... But it's still totally worth it. I am absolutely excited for Second Son!

showtimefolks3965d ago (Edited 3965d ago )

i hope they let us change the hard drive unlike MS who makes you buy their own brand and from what i understand you can't even changes the hard drive on xbox one

never in 23 years of gaming have i seen one company basically screw itself in 2 conferences

i hope ps4's controller is much better and that's coming from a long time PS fan

GrilledCheeseBook3965d ago

All you got to do is hawk the discount retailers in your city. I bought something like 6 360 controllers for $20 each back when I had a 360. Most were out of their box but they worked perfectly fine and there wasn't any wear on the sticks. Looked like they were just taken out of the box.

ZodTheRipper3965d ago

Hopefully there will be also a 1TB version at launch ...just to avoid the problems I have with my 320GB PS3 right now lol

Kamikaze1353965d ago

I bought a 320GB HDD for my PS3 thinking I'd be set for life.....boy was I wrong, lol. More is definitely better.

sashimi3965d ago

Lol I thought a 500GB HD was safe too til i got a message saying i can't download or install anymore

SonyPS43965d ago

Yeah I have a model 2501B Slim and the thing is nearly filled up with just game installs and PS Plus content. No music, no videos, no photos...all games.

doi3965d ago (Edited 3965d ago )

well, i have only 80G with my PS3 and i'm a PS+ member but I don't really have any problems with the HD space unless you don't wanna re-install games of course. I just delete the games I don't wanna play or done playing and i can always install them whenever i want or re-download the free games i received with PS+.

500G would probably more than enough for me in the PS4.

IcicleTrepan3965d ago

I'm hoping the PS4 hard drive will be user upgradeable like the PS3 one is. I don't think there's been any word on this yet.

Kamikaze1353965d ago

I wonder if the 500GB will be included with the $400 model, or if it will be on a more expensive model. I hope so.

gamer423965d ago

Did they say there was 2 versions?

sjaakiejj3965d ago

there's only one model for as far as we know, so that's the model with the 500 GB Hard Drive. I hope (and expect) it is replaceable.

jaredhart3965d ago

Hopefully you can purchase and upgrade the memory as easy as you can for the PS3.

phantomexe3965d ago

Nice thats great to hear. They really surprised me tonight. A friend of mine who was watching it with me is really into xbox and he walked away saying MS lost my money. He said wiiu,ps4. He is going miss halo tho alot.

Ace_Pheonix3965d ago

Not with Destiny being the fullest experience on PS4.

Gladiator’s Arena review - Games Asylum

Games Asylum: "Even though the Vampire Survivors influenced ‘auto shooter’ genre isn’t long in the tooth, I’m still surprised that it has taken this long for a Roman gladiator-themed rendition to come along – especially with a sequel to Ridley Scott’s 2000 box office hit Gladiator imminent. It’s thematically perfect, with its circular arena in which one man stands alone against hordes of enemies, grabbing loot as they survive one wave to the next."

There's a reason they're called 'gods' and not 'regular people'. It's nice they've diversified even more but gods looking godly wasn't exactly a glaring issue with the first game.

Juancho511h ago

Hey! Gods suffer from obesity and diabetes too!

Blastoise1h ago

This is the dumbest article I've read in a long time.

Michiel198954m ago

No one had an issue with that besides a very select group of people that try to push their own agenda.

Crows9018m ago

Exactly. Not even sure they're necessarily committing to body diversity either.

The designs look fine not stupid.
