iPhone specs compare favourably to DS and PSP

VG247: A spec comparison between iPhone and its new gaming handheld rivals has been published, showing that the Apple device stacks up extremely well in the hardware department when placed side by side with DS and PSP.

Although Wedbush Morgan's Michael Patcher reckons iPhone is not a viable gaming platform, several high profile developers and publishers such as Gameloft, Team17 and EA (Spore) seem to think the device has a future as a portable gaming device...

lol ds maybe but i doubt it can rumble with the psp. I just don't see it running syphon filter and god of war. However i see it running nintendogs and that new link game forgot the name. Can also prob run mario kart as well. PS. Diddy kong racing owns mario kart lol

" I just don't see it running syphon filter and god of war."

Why?

Did you even look at the specs? If so, what exactly puts it far behind the Psp? I'm seriously curious.

Bleucrunch3403d ago

Yea I agree I dont know why they think people are going to pay between $300-$600 for a handheld iPhone just to play games.....LOL not gonna happen you research company analyst..you're all a bunch of idiots I say.

mighty_douche3403d ago

Theres also the iTouch. All of this is relevent to that to.

itouch = love child of the DS (touch screen) and the PSP (graphics)

HAHAHA I could not have said it better myself. I need a phone. Not some do it all machine with cameras and MP3 players. My wife recently bought a smart phone from Motorola. The battery life in it sucks big time, which is typical of modern cell phones in North America. Having a CPU and a GPU in a phone is going to destroy the little battery life we enjoy now. AND I'm not paying 400 dollars for it either whereas my PSP cost me 200.

You could get the Fat PSP for $169 and the DS for less.

Such strong reactions, it's funny. So here's what the summary says (and there's not a lot else besides specs in the article):

"A spec comparison between iPhone and its new gaming handheld rivals has been published, showing that the Apple device stacks up extremely well in the hardware department when placed side by side with DS and PSP. "

This just addresses the people who said things like "until I see Chains of Olympus type graphics on it, I won't believe it." It's certainly capable of doing just that.

"Although Wedbush Morgan’s Michael Patcher reckons iPhone is not a viable gaming platform, several high profile developers and publishers such as Gameloft, Team17 and EA (Spore) seem to think the device has a future as a portable gaming device..."

So one guy says it isn't viable, others say it has a future. No one in this entire thing said it would dominate or even compete. So half of them are idiots for agreeing with some of you? Or are they just idiots because they think some developers might make money on the deal?

You're all right when you say that very few will buy this simply as a gaming handheld, but even if no-one does, that doesn't eliminate it a a viable gaming platform. If it did, then companies like Popcap games would not exist.

The Iphone is not 3G....it needs to be 3G and soon...hopefully this year..

Texting on the Iphone is weak at best...the multi-touch keyboard sucks for texting....the iphone needs a slide out qwerty keboard.

All Sony has to do on the PSP2 is this..

Multitouch screen
slideout qwerty keyboard
Bluetooth 2.1
802.11 B\G\N
A cell processor at 45 nm at 2+ GHZ...
512 megs of ram
16 GBs of built in flash.

Price it at $199

And they will rule the market.

AllroundGamer3403d ago

how long do you think the battery would hold with such PSP2 specs? :)

Kholinar3403d ago (Edited 3403d ago )

"And they will rule the market."

for two weeks until the loss from selling that hardware utterly sunk their company...

Btw... texting on the iphone/emailing on the touch, whatever, it's much faster than a standard handset and 90% as fast as a Blackberry for anyone who actually tries. I type with three fingers most of the time and I expect to be able to far outpace most two thumb users in a few months.

PS360WII3403d ago

Man you are way off on texting with the iPhone. I go at it with two thumbs and I can pump out long winded SMS on that touchscreen keyboard. A heck of a lot faster then having 3 letters/key or even of full tactile keypad. The keypad on most mobile phones are small buttons while the iPhone 'buttons' are easier to hit at a faster rate.
