A Reaction To Microsoft’s Latest Xbox One Revelations

Baden of WGB writes: "Microsoft have revealed via their official Xbox news site a load of new information regarding the Xbox One, namely their policies on used-games, lending, licensing , privacy and much more. The good news is that some of the information is actually quite exciting. The bad news is that the majority is not likely to help stem the tide of anger currently being directed at Microsoft and their VCR player. Damn. I meant their Xbox One. It’s so hard to tell."

Yeah this is the most shocking revelation.. They copied PSX's design

Rusty5151868d ago

They also stole the playstation ones name. Damn thiefs...

SignifiedSix911868d ago

But there was never a Playstation One.

Playstation, yeah. But never a Playstation One...

Hicken1868d ago

The Original PlayStation, also known as the PSOne.

And the PSX copied that one design the ancient egyptians created all those years ago. I sincerely didn't know making a rectangle was copying. You sound like an Apple spokesman.

I accidentally disagreed with you Rusty515...i'm hoping that was sarcasm

Just got a new leak from GAF's most reliable insider:

(translation)
- Microsoft is actively buying up exclusive stage-time with 3rd parties to give the appearance of exclusivity. Tomorrow, unless you explicitly hear the phrase "only coming to Xbox One" you can safely assume it's multiplat
- no actual plan for rental support. MS hopes this will quiet down and be forgotten
- the reported "cloud power" is meant to be a parole officer, not a power-booster for Xbox One
- MS came up with the DRM ideas and presented them to EA and Ubisoft, not the other way around. Activision/Blizzard isn't quite so keen on it
- The terms-of-service for Xbox One's DRM is even worse than people think. MS is trying to keep it under wraps.
- Mirror's Edge 2, Prince of Persia reboot, and Dead Rising 3 to be shown @ Microsoft conference.
- World of Tanks coming to Xbox One
- Live Gold subscription required for online, even for f2p online games
- no online paywall (online gaming?) for PS4

Taking the list at face value, which may or may not be a good idea...

"- Microsoft is actively buying up exclusive stage-time with 3rd parties to give the appearance of exclusivity. Tomorrow, unless you explicitly hear the phrase "only coming to Xbox One" you can safely assume it's multiplat"

Nothing new there.

"- no actual plan for rental support. MS hopes this will quiet down and be forgotten"

If true, that'll be one more nail in the coffin.

"- the reported "cloud power" is meant to be a parole officer, not a power-booster for Xbox One"

It can't possibly be much else, from what I've read. The tech just isn't there yet.

"- MS came up with the DRM ideas and presented them to EA and Ubisoft, not the other way around. Activision/Blizzard isn't quite so keen on it"

If true, another nail in the coffin.

"- The terms-of-service for Xbox One's DRM is even worse than people think. MS is trying to keep it under wraps."

Tough to imagine it getting worse, but then again I'd have never imagined they'd try what they're already known to be trying.

"- Mirror's Edge 2, Prince of Persia reboot, and Dead Rising 3 to be shown @ Microsoft conference."

Multi-plats that might be presented as exclusives, as mentioned in the first point.

"- World of Tanks coming to Xbox One"

No idea. Honestly. Not saying it's a bad thing, just never heard of it.

"- Live Gold subscription required for online, even for f2p online games"

I would assume this anyway. Is this different from current policy?

"- no online paywall (online gaming?) for PS4"

I'm guessing that means free basic online play, which was expected. I'm sure most or all of the social features will require PS+ though.

Damn.. and I was one of those that had hope two weeks ago. Seriously hope to the gods of balls they announce a new Mass Effect.

SignifiedSix911868d ago

Lol neoGAF is s**t. Dont see how anyone could use that troll site for "reliable" sources.

Probably some fanboys that make a bunch of crap up, hoping for it to be true.

cheetah1868d ago

MS better have an amazing E3 or the Xbox brand is in serious trouble. There would be a few execs not sleeping tonight I am guessing.

jc485731868d ago (Edited 1868d ago )

one can only hope I guess, but their cancellation of their Q&A booth seems to suggest otherwise. 1. they are still trying to fix the policy (not a good sign) and 2. they are simply going to stick with it.

Magnus1868d ago

Right now as it sits its a wait and see approach when it comes to Microsoft and the shit storm they created in the gaming community. Microsoft has to run damage control because as it stands right now not alot of people are going to buy the XboxOne. People may say they won't buy it but they will since its a new piece of technology. I know one thing as it sits if XboxOne came out say next month I am going to avoid it simple facts Microsofts policy on used games and the fact they featured more on the tv side instead of the gaming side.

killalot1001868d ago

I really dislike this DRM they are putting into place. I think its wrong in so many levels that Im not going to buy a xbox one until they fix this DRM crap. They can show me Halo, Gears, and Killer Instinct all they want Im not falling for that crap. Sad thing is that its going to be months until the console actually releases and so many people are either going to forget this whole DRM crap or just not care anymore. Its also stupid because I have family and friends that dont have fast enough internet to even get a xbox one

kingPoS1868d ago (Edited 1868d ago )

It someone told me a year ago this was Mircosoft's plan, I would have luaghed and told them to stop joking around.

Jokes on us huh - the consumer.

ACEMANWISE1868d ago (Edited 1868d ago )

Here's my reaction. I no longer support digital content whether it be movies or games unless I start seeing a ownership-like access when paying ownership -like prices. There is no reason why I should pay the same price as a disc when the service enforces rules that devalue it's worth.

I'm tired of being controlled by a service that is supposed to be serving my best interests and in things that reflect real consumer demand. I want my game backups to be real and not junk data that still requires your service to use them. I want my game saves back without the need to use your service .

I want my console to function like a game console. I want system updates to actually do more improving. I want games to be released in complete condition and not 99% with the 1.01 update I see every single time.

I want online modes to continue hosting on consoles before shutting down your official servers. I want you to put more effort into gaming and not into always on cameras that listen 24/7 for a single command.

I want you to focus on hiring actual gamers that are young, have a heart for gaming, and not a bunch of analysts, laywers, and business graduates trying to decide the future for gaming. I want you to let them make games and stop throwing crippling deadlines, and work hours so you can sit on a perch, collect 90% of the profits, drive a BMW, and then bloat the value of the empire around your overvalued heads. You guys are the entitled leeches that take all the credit when it's always the little guy that's making the business go 'round.
