IGN - With crazier stories and different voices, is this the same franchise one IGN editor fell in love with?
I'm the biggest fan of MGS ever. but I have uneasy feeling about MGSV. If they keep dragging the story too much, it will lose its magic and quality would decline. I trust Kojima, but seems like Konami wont let him stop doing MGS games.
My opinion I feel like he's pushing it with another prequel, I mean the story arc finished in MGS4, we knew everything that had happened, hell it was explained to us in those long cutscenes in MGS4 thanks to Eva and Big Boss. I really feel like this should of been a hand held game like Peace Walker. I understand Snake Eater being a prequel main numbered game because getting to know Big Boss was important for MGS4. After this game he has no where else to go. The only options he has are - Force another Solid Snake story on us despite the lovely ending of MGS4 - Reboot it and let Kojima do something else - (my favorite idea) reboot it but with an alternative timeline starting from MGS, the shadow mosess incident. If we start with a remake like the RE remake with more areas, bosses, story then do a semi remake with the second game only for Raiden to not be in it and Solidus getting away instead then that changes EVERYTHING in MGS4. Naomi won't be captured by Liquid Ocelot because he'll be dead thus she could work on with the time she has, a way to fix Snakes rapid ageing...and it's their story they can do it. Best thing about the reboot/remake is that the first one will seem more like a remake giving Kojima more time to do something else, same goes for the semi reboot/remake of the second game without Raiden. It's only the third game in the new timeline that will have to be differn't, that will give Kojima a lot of free time to do new IP's and maybe a ZOE sequel.
The only real alternative is that the original Metal Gear 1/2 (MSX/nintendo/whatever console they were on) games are rebooted, under a different name. MGS5/MGS6/MGS7 Solid Snake will be back, younger and ready to fight his nemesis Big Boss much like the old Metal Gear titles. That's the only path. Why would they reboot Metal Gear Solid 1/2/4. That makes no sense.
New timeline! Fresh start! Hear hear!
I'm a huge MGS fan too (played every game including the originals and the PSP ones) but to be honest, I don't care about the story this time around. If the story is cool, sure I'll enjoy it, but what I'm most excited about in MGSV is being able to take all the crazy techniques/weapons/gadgets/tri cks that we're used to and goofing around with them in a sandbox environment. Imagine sneaking into a camp, lacing it with C4, sneaking away, and then blowing everything to smithereens. Imagine CQCing everyone and dragging them into a massive pile in the middle of nowhere (or dumping them into the ocean). I think it'll be crazy fun.
im with you. this is a GAME the story comes second to great gameplay and great games.
" im with you. this is a GAME the story comes second to great gameplay and great games." That's not always the case imo. I love MGS's gameplay, but I enjoy the story a whole lot more. I'd be willing to look past crappy gameplay if the story is worth it, but if they butcher the story I don't think even good gameplay could save it.
Yes IGN one voice actor who was already replaced in MGS4 as BB is changing the whole 25 years history of MGS Go F*** Off IGN, must be a slow news day
Dude, Big Boss was like 84 at the time of MGS4. They HAD to change the voice actor. However, Ground Zeroes only takes place 9 days after Peace Walker. Huge difference between the 2 situations, that's why the change in voice actor is now such a problem. Everyone knew Big Boss would need a new voice actor at that age in MGS4 so no one was bothered by it.
I really hope Kojima hits this one out of the park then moves onto other projects he wants to do. Nothing against MGS as I love it, I would just like to see other Kojima games after MGSV.
I personally think the only reason why their is MGSV is because Konami wants to market the FOX engine, they want it to be as big as the Unreal Enginein the development community, so what better way then to push it with MGSV(That probably also explains the wide variety of platforms)
My understanding is that the "series" is broken into segments that are only peripherally related. Metal Gear 1-2 Metal Gear Solid Metal Gear Solid 2 Metal Gear Solid 3-4 Metal Gear Rising ...Or something like that.
It's more like Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2, Metal Gear Solid (one set) Metal Gear Solid (since transitional), Metal Gear Solid 2, Metal Gear Solid 3 (second set) Metal Gear Solid 3 Subsistence, Portable Ops, Metal Gear Solid 4 (third set) Metal Gear Solid 4 (since transitional), Peace Walker (fourth set) MGSV seems different from the little gameplay I've seen then Rising with it's action thing
We'll know after 5 releases. A voice doesn't make a game fun/good. Sorry. EDIT: I thought Old Snake sounded like Bale's Batman, so...I'm fine with the change.
But when the character doesn't sound the way he did when you were growing up, it gets hard to adjust and relate to him the same. It's like it's a different character.
Is Metal Gear Solid Still the Same Franchise? NO. When you stop listening to your fans and start changing too much or change something that don't need changing(Hayter), most games start going down hill(Final Fantasy) especially with the Japanese devs. I still remember how most were crying out for FF change, are you happy?
Keep crying. I, for one, will enjoy every goddamn moment of that game while you keep complaining. I was mad too at first but then I rewatched the GDC 2013 trailer and man...those emotions in Snake's face when he watches his motherbase get utterly destroyed... At that moment I knew it was the right choice. I have rarely seen such good facial mocap and acting in a game.
For the very first time, i'm not feeling the hype
As long as Kojima is the one doing it, it will be better then the last one. Even though MGS4 was amazing.
Well any true MGS fan would know that no two MGS games are alike. It's a voice actor. This game will be an open world peace walker like game (which is great) I spent over 120 hrs in that game, beat everything. If they have full day and night cycle and with all the new tech.. It will be amazing. Family and Revenge
Its not just just a voice, that voice IS SNAKE anyone that doesn't mind the voice change is no true fan of MGS it just shows show been a fan day 1 and who's just hopping in the bandwagon This game feels like its trying to go too mainstream the multiplatform release day 1 proves it. To me MGS is loosing its magic its turning to be just another great game, not a Metal Gear Solid game
"Its not just just a voice, that voice IS SNAKE anyone that doesn't mind the voice change is no true fan of MGS" last i check you aren't the one that defines what makes us a "metal gear solid fan" thank you very much Its going to piss you off that i dont mind the voice change either while snake's voice is iconic it was not the main reason i like the series in the first place * otherwise i might as well listen to a recording rather then play the game* so to me nothing has change about it other then obvious gameplay mechanics the core element of the story which is what we all love about is still there
That's the dumbest comment I have read so even though I have all the games I'm not a fan because I have no problem with the new voice lol I enjoy MGS for the story and game play not a voice. You are the one that is not a true fan your a Hayter fan not a MGS fan
" I enjoy MGS for the story and game play not a voice." But let's not pretend that voice acting isn't a big part of what makes a character's personality though. Voices can make all the difference between whether a character is well-liked or completely hated. For example, if Snake was voiced by Chris Tucker he'd be a VERY different type of character that fans might not have liked as much.
I believe the theme is race and revenge.
I like Kiefer Sutherland but... He hasn't been groomed to be the same type off character Snake was. 24 was perfect for him but I can't imagine him playing the part. Plus he has this occasional snort when he breathes. He does it often enough to notice. Plus he exhales a lot in distress. Many people may never have noticed before but it should be more obvious when his face doesn't distract the observation.
MGR and this are unneeded, and MGS is my favorite series ever. Konami is milking now.
there hasnt been a core mgs since 2008 dude hows that milking it? revengence doesnt count it wasnt made by kojima
Peace Walker is a core MGS game and was originally called MGS5. That was released in 2010.
yes it was originally mgs5 but i remember it being released without the 5 and peace walker instead im talking abot 1-4 protable ops and peace walker are side games its why there is no number
I feel it needs to die personally. Too much Too much. Just do it.
last MGS game was in 2008. its not like cod released every year.
Frequency doesn't matter. Dragging story does
Yeah. I wonder if Japanese people asked if Metal Gear was the same franchise when MGS1 released.
I dunno about you guys but I'm here for the gameplay and story. not gameplay, story and voice.
um has kojima ever let anyone down? no? ok ya it will be fineim as disapointed as any about the voice actor but i play mgs games for the gameplay and story and they are always excellent. after seeing the gameplay trailers im more excited for this game than any other
@MrNuts MGS4's Lovely ending? Really? The ending was a joke. (Spoilers) Meryl and Johnny getting married, Mei Leing surviving at the last minute along with everyone else and Snake's lame "I'm gonna travel the world." line. Are you kidding? The way it should have ended was with Snake shooting himself at the cemetary. THAT would have been an ending. And at least one of the major "good" characters should have died, Mei Ling, Meryl, somebody. How contrived that they all get saved miraculously at the last second just incase Kojima decideds to do another sequel. I'm a huge fan of the Metal Gear series and I've beaten them all (Even Twin Snakes) but honestly people put way too much faith in Kojima. Does no one remember what a terrible letdown Metal Gear 2 was? Playing that game was as disappointing as seeing Matrix Reloaded for the first time in theatres. As great as MGS 1 and 3 are, there is so much terrible dialogue/bad voice acting (like Raiden and Rose talking about watching King Kong in MGS 2. Or Otacon being in love with "Nai---oooo-Meeeee" in MGS4) and so many ridiculous plot points (The la le lu le lo, Liquid surviving in a severed arm) in some of the other games in the series that I can't understand how so many people still think Kojima is infallible. He chose to make Raiden the main character in MGS2, obviously he's capable of making mistakes.
Gamers can be so conservative at times. Some of you sound like old people who are scared to death of change. One nudge in your life-long routines and you cramp. At least hold your judgement until you've seen how it turns out.
I don't care that good one got him then Hurry up movie make film now. I don't want wait lol
MGS 2 was the last one I gave a shit about, but at least they were still okay until this Hater-less mess which is MGSV, and the ruined Reveangeance.
If there was a point to write MGS off from, it would be 3, surely? 4 might tie up the plot threads but it's messy as all hell. 5 has a chance to lean less on continuity and work as a self-contained adventure, which I think is the direction they really need to take.
It'll end when it ends people. What's wrong with more Metal Gear games especially when they're putting so much effort into these.
