Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter believes any publisher that disables used gaming runs risk of significant backlash or boycotts.
The mouthpiece for the Third Party Cabal.
so now the blame is on publishers? I dont give a shit about publishers blocking used games or not, what is disgusting is Microsoft's intention to design the machine this way.
Please, why would EA get rid of the online pass if they weren't thinking of blocking/charging an extra fee for used games?
haha... every time this guy speak, it should be called "opposite day".
@xHeavYx: because they know from the start that xbox will be like it is
Oh well it's a wrap! People prepare for the worst! The backwards man is at it again.
* Love how he always comes out with these "predictions" about 1-2 days after they are made by somebody else. He literally just steals other people's opinions and uses them as his own. What he does for his real job, he probably is legit at. But business people like him don't have time to really game and so they don't really understand games. If when you think of gaming, money enters your mind, your out of touch with gaming.
There you go guys....proof...finally....tha t publishers will block X1 used games
Yeah I agree, if all Publishers do it at the same time, gamers will have no choice but to accept it. Sony will need to come clean and I have a feeling that Sony fanboys will not be happy.
"if all Publishers do it at the same time, gamers will have no choice but to accept it." Or not buy those games. Which would then send the publishers into shock.
Didn't disagree, but Sony already has already come clean. They said they'll leave DRM up to publishers way back in Feb. And PS4 does not require online (except for obvious features like multiplayer and cloud) That way gamers don't need to boycott an entire console.
Microsoft is leaving DRM to publishers, and you see what that looks like.
For those disagreeing http://www.cinemablend.com/... "At a roundtable this morning, Sony's game studios chief, Shuhei Yoshida, told reporters that any requirement for users to register a game online in order to play it would be left to game publishers. Sony won't require that." And from same article in the link provided "This clears up a few things: 1.) The PlayStation 4 can play games offline without having to be online. This was clarified the day of the PS4's reveal back on February 20th. 2.) Sony will not have any mandatory DRM for used games. You can buy, play, trade used games on the PlayStation 4 just as usual. No additional registration fees, pay-walls or internet registration required. 3.) If you so choose, you can play games from disc, download them from the digital store or remote load them. Sony doesn't mandate any method over the other for multi-format titles. 4.) Just for extra clarification the PlayStation 4 does not and will not require a constant always-on internet connection." DRM is not mandatory but left to the publishers. And online is not mandatory. It will be great if Sony says screw it, no DRM at all. But until then, this is what we have. Again gamers can chose to only boycott a greedy publisher, instead of needing to boycott a whole console. Unless I'm misunderstanding this. In which case, let me know how.
@JoySticksFTW: All that really says is that they're doing exactly what MS is doing, passing the buck, but aren't in the position to implement it. That it hasn't been directly designed into the functionality of their system.
Cause we all know everything Pachter says is the opposite. :)
i hope this DRM doesnt happen but it looks like the 3rd party devs pushed it ! and effin MS had to make a DRM console ! This industry man , its going to shit !
You guys need to take off your fanboy glasses. To remind you Sony said exactly same thing, that it's the publishers that will decide if they wan't to block used games or not on ps4...and it's totally ok with you, but when MS does it it's end of the world and MS is the devil. Truth is, both companies will do that, get over it.
Its not just used games, its the limitations Microsoft has put on letting friends borrow games. Yeah its great they can do it but I have to be with them. Unless their family, and I want to know how they can identity who your family is. Plus you can only give a game away once. If I sold u a game, u couldn't turn around and resell it.
This guy is insane
he's off his medication. quick someone get him some.
If publishers won't block used games then why implement tech to dissern whether or not a game is a used game or not? His statement is illogical
Ironic...frankly he's made the most sense out of anyone in regards to this lately.
Media is giving him to much space. Whos is he? Someone important...? I don't think so.
He's right. They won't block used games. They'll let you pay a fee to play them so technically it's not blocked. Companies that did the whole online pass crap this gen will definitely "block" them this time around.
Didn't Sony do online passes?
Yeah. This gen they will do offline passes.
If Sony has the same DRM, which is pretty clear that they do, publishers WILL take the option of blocking used games. If they're blocked on PS4 and XB1, where else are gamers going to go? The WiiU? Not likely.
how can Sony have the same DRM if the PS4 works 100% offline?
Shuhei Yoshida stated that they're leaving drm up to the publishers. If it's not identical drm as the XB1, it's something similar. Do you really expect publishers like EA to block used games on XB1 while allowing free reign on PS4? Give me more disagrees please!
They never stated that it'll work 100% offline. All they said was that it didn't require "always online."
EA not wanting to block used game sales? lol
Is pachter payed by MS. I've never heard him knock MS, or maybe I've missed it. I'm not buying XBOX anyway, not because of the DRM,TV stuff, but because I don't want their games. People need to realize, just like if I was fed up with Sony, I would not buy it. Unless your really hooked on HALO,FORZA, there is no reason to own the console.
who is this guy?
This is nonsense!!! M$/X1 specifically designed and implemented a platform which allows publishers to rape consumers pockets or else, why would it be a feature? I thought EA dropped the online pass for being ranked the number 1 worst company. They announced it soooo proudly too. Little did we know that they were busy behind the scenes cooking up an evil plot with ms on how to continuously take money from me. I just hope that somewhere SONY understands that all they have to do is stick with the consumer and they will remove MS as a force in gaming in roughly 1-2 years from now, why? because NOBODY will have an x1 console if there is an alternative. ALL my previous 360 boys are pledging allegiance to sony. And that is something I NEVER thought i'd EVER see.
For once he may actually be RIGHT WHOOOOOOOK. I agree and any publisher that does can kiss it good bye, apart from Rockstar games lol
oh its from patcher, i guess publishers will block used games after all
It doesn't matter if publishers block used games. The 24 hour online check in will make sure YOU WILL NEVER OWN YOUR GAMES. Ever.
