Why This Year's E3 May Be One Of Nintendo's Best

The Game Inquirer says: "Nintendo are playing a very different ball game to both Sony and Microsoft this year at E3. While the latter two will be battling it out for next generation supremacy with their shiny new systems, Nintendo instead will be proving to the world that their now one year old system is still worth getting excited for. Many out there feel Nintendo haven’t got what it takes to compete with Microsoft and Sony this year, however I believe the company has just as much chance as any other to steal the thunder at E3 and surprise us all. Here’s why…"

I have nothing against the Wii U. But God am I tired of hearing new Smash Bros., New Maro Kart, New 3D Mario.

It irks me. Every generation of Nintendo is essentially the same games with slightly better graphics.

Come on Nintendo, you don't need to slap Mario onto every game you sell.

Mario Tennis
Mario Golf
Mario Party

We'll buy it just because we know it was made by NINTENDO

kirbyu1691d ago

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Pikmin
Metroid Prime
Kirby's Epic Yarn
Wii Sports

Looks like someone's exaggerating.

Shadowsteal1691d ago

How many new IP's is that?

SilentNegotiator1691d ago

....are you trying to help prove his point?

Animavicion1691d ago

you have not even bothered to look for new franchises:

-Pandora's Tower (2011)
-The Last Story (2011)
-Xenoblade Chronicles (2010)
-etc...

(And in fact there are more, but for certain reasons I think it would be best not to mention., But you can see them here: http://goo.gl/NO7uE)

SilentNegotiator1691d ago

How many years do you think we're going to be told that those 3 titles "prove" that Nintendo totally gives us as many new IPs?

RTheRebel1691d ago

And yet your exited about's Sony's rehashed games right DRONE?

Shadowsteal1691d ago

What like the Last of Us, Drive Club, Tearaway, Puppeteer, Knack, and Beyond: Two Souls? And the numerous other New IP's that'll be announced at e3?

You guys are the drones, when's the last time a new Nintendo IP was announced?

MEsoJD1691d ago

Some of the most creative/original games have been coming out from Sony.

solidjun51690d ago

I see this bot is creative.

Goldenarmz1691d ago

why would they stop making those?? They continue to sell millions of millions of millions of copies. Why would ANYBODY do that? When you think of Nintendo, you think of THOSE titles.

punisher991691d ago (Edited 1691d ago )

Its not that Nintendo need to stop making those. I dont care if they make a 1000 marios and zeldas. But why cant they actually make some new games sometimes??

dedicatedtogamers1691d ago

When it comes to Nintendo, this year's E3 doesn't matter at all.

Will it be fun to watch? Sure. Will we get to see some great games? Of course.

But Nintendo is going to benefit simply by having the cheapest, least-restricted console on the market. When PS4 and Xbox One launch, Wii-U will be $150+ cheaper, I guarantee it.

LOGICWINS1691d ago

But yet another God of War, Halo, or Killzone is "okay"? People buy Sony consoles to play Sony games. People buy Microsoft consoles to play Microsoft games. Guess why they buy Nintendo consoles....

punisher991691d ago

Yes another God Of War is okay, because along with that franchise you get new franchises. Franchises like Little Big Planet, Motorstorm, Infamous, Uncharted, The LAst of Us was all born this gen.

LOGICWINS1691d ago

And there were no new IPs on the Nintendo front this gen? I know of at least two dozen new IPs that came out this gen....on the DS alone.

punisher991691d ago

" I know of at least two dozen new IPs that came out this gen....on the DS alone. "

Were any of them even GOTY contenders??

LOGICWINS1691d ago (Edited 1691d ago )

......

What difference does that make? New IPs that aren't GOTY candidates aren't new IPs now lol.

Take a look at the most popular franchises of all time. COD, Tekken, Gran Turismo, Pokemon, Madden etc. These games are rarely considered to be "GOTY candidates" by major publications...and guess what, no one cares because they still sell extremely well.

I bet your one of those people that only buy what random journalists tell you to buy. As if most consumers care about what online critics think lol.

punisher991691d ago

"What difference does that make? New IPs that aren't GOTY candidates aren't new IPs now lol. "

What difference does it make? If a game is a GOTY contender, then at the very least its a great and meanigful game. GOTY is not a popularity contest which is why none of the COD games ever actually won.

LOGICWINS1691d ago

GOTY IS a popularity contest...limited to critics. In the hypothetical situation that the mainstream public had a say in what was GOTY, then COD, Madden would without a doubt be up for consideration.

Trago13371691d ago

So you're not Excited for Bayonetta 2, X, Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem, or Retro's new game?

Why does everyone assume that Mario is the only offering that Nintendo gives?

chadboban1691d ago

Because saying that supports their argument. Just cherry picking to prove a point. Fanboys will be fanboys and there's not much you can do about it.

Just enjoy what you play because at the end of the day, for REAL gamers, that's what's most important.

thaimasker1691d ago

Galaxy, Sunshine and mario 64 are the same games?..just a graphics upgrade?

lol. Just because its the same char doesn't mean its the same game.

and we know miyamoto is working on a new IP. They have been pushing new IP'S on the 3DS but they also have to fill demand with all the sequals their fans want ...as soon as Mario kart, etc flops and stops selling 10's of millions then they'll prob stop relying on them. They can only make so many games with the teams that they have

Animavicion1691d ago (Edited 1691d ago )

Shinobi1001691d ago (Edited 1691d ago )

Smash Bros. will be COMPLETELY different this year, which immediately disproves your whole comment. It's being co-developed by fighting genre legends Namco for the 1st time ever, Sakurai is letting other people help with character balancing for the 1st time ever, it's adding new playable characters, and EVERY returning character will have new moves. And it's coming to a Nintendo handheld for the 1st time ever which has me at geek level SUPREMA

GFahim1691d ago (Edited 1691d ago )

mate only 3 smash bros games was released in the last 15 years or so whereas 3 uncharted games was released in one generation lol (about 5 years).

kirbyu1691d ago

I was just saying they make more than Mario games.

TongkatAli1691d ago

Anima that "etc" is very telling, don't tire yourself naming all the new ips and stopping at number 3.

LOL!

Catnip1691d ago

I really want people to realize that Nintendo is constantly creating new IPs, but with the same characters. For example, Kirby's Return to Dreamland and Kirby's Epic Yard are two drastically different games - just because they both feature Kirby characters and story, they could easily be considered separate IPs. The same goes for Mario - you can't say that Mario Party, Mario Galaxy, Paper Mario, and New Super Mario Bros. are similar or redundant, even though they all feature Mario.

3-4-51691d ago

They are good games though and refreshing to play after hours and hours of FPS, Sports games and decent RPG's.

WiiUsauce1690d ago (Edited 1690d ago )

Sin and Punishment Star Successor, Dillon's Rolling Western, Sakura Samurai, Ketzal's Corridors, The Last Story, Pandora's Tower, Xenoblade Chronicles, Xenoblade 2, Wonderful 101, Bayonetta 2, Rhythm Heaven, Dempa Men, Elite Beat Agents, ect.

The new IPs are there, and the existing IPs always get revitalized so much so that they feel like brand new games altogether. Just compare Mario Sunshine to Galaxy, or Skyward Sword to Twilight Princess. If they were just rehashed sequels like Call of Duty, I wouldn't buy them. Super Smash Bros. 4, Mario Kart U, and the next 3D Mario will all look and play different than their prior entries which is what keeps us Nintendo fans eagerly awaiting their release dates.

The NSMB series, and the Mario Party series are the only series of Nintendo games that I mostly skip out on. I bought Super Mario Party 2, and then I skipped buying a Mario Party game altogether. I bought NSMB DS, and I skipped NSMBWii, NSMB2, but I bought NSMBU. I also never bought a Mario Sports series game besides Mario Tennis Open, and I won't be buying Mario Golf, because golf has never interested me. Nintendo fans aren't buying every single thing with Mario on the cover like you guys think we do.

The only Mario games I really look forward to are the 3D free roaming platforming Mario series, and Super Mario Kart.

Plus Nintendo has already announced that brand new IPs will be shown at E3. Xenoblade 2 alone will be well worth the purchase of the console, and it's a fresh new IP.

truechainz1690d ago

I'm sorry if Nintendo games have stopped being fun for you. They have not for me so I will continue to play them. I enjoy fun games and will play any game that I enjoy. It is that simple. I don't care if it is a new IP or the thousandth installment of a series, if it is good I will play it. That goes for nintendo, sony, microsoft, or whoever else wants to make games for me to enjoy. If it bothers you that much I would suggest trying to not read nintendo news. I have found that thanks to the less than stellar marketing it is pretty easy to avoid. Plus you don't even have to buy any games. I know...it will seem scary at first but just give it a try and see how it feels.

cyguration1691d ago

Why it will be one of the best?

Because Microsoft's will be one of the worst.

U > 1

deafdani1691d ago

Lol. While I don't necessarily agree, that still made me chuckle. Bubble up for funny. XD

WiiUsauce1690d ago

Nah, I'm actually excited for Microsoft's conference. Banjo Kazooie, Killer Instict, Halo 5, and Crackdown 3 will be there.

Trago13371691d ago (Edited 1691d ago )

New games, that is all

DivineAssault 1691d ago

It may be one of their last as well..

chadboban1691d ago

Huh? Um why?

Not joking around, just genuinely curious as to why you feel that way.

DivineAssault 1691d ago

well, theyre moving towards Nintendo Directs instead of major even showings & arent even having a conference this yr.. Im guessing theyre going to go in a whole different direction from now on.. Plus if wii u doesnt pick up steam with their exclusives, why bother having an event nx yr? This is the yr to do it & theyre not

PerryCaravello1691d ago

The standards for nintendo have really hit the floor.

E3 for nintendo won't be great lol. Nintendo won't be making waves, nor will it steal back any spotlight from Sony/Microsoft.

These are not opinions, these are facts.

deafdani1691d ago

...except for the fact that it's just, like, your opinion, man.

PerryCaravello1690d ago (Edited 1690d ago )

No, it's fact "man."

Do you want to be the 2nd person I bet with, that nintendo will be in the same stale, crappy position they are in now, AFTER E3.

Really? You want to put yourself on that chopping block.

Dude, I don't care about nintendo as a company, it's a company.... I'm literally just telling you what the current situation is. It's not going to change.

Take your fanboy hat off for 2 seconds lol. Go ahead, reply.

deafdani1690d ago

Ok, I'll gladly bite.

I'm not the one stating, matter-of-factly, how this year's E3 will turn out for any of the big three companies. It's you. Where did you buy that cristal ball? I would like one of these.

You make a grave mistake of assuming how the future of Nintendo will turn out based on the ACTUAL state of things.

Want to talk about actual FACTS? Ok, here we go.

1. People took for granted that Nintendo would absolutely destroy last year's E3 because they were going fully with a new console, whereas Sony and Microsoft had very little.

Yet Nintendo managed to make an awful press conference at last year's E3, new console and everything. And they did bad the previous year, too, when they unveiled the Wii U for the first time.

2. People were assuming that the Wii U would be left in the dust because of the impending console reveals from Sony and Microsoft.

Yet Microsoft's console reveal was highly criticized, and right after that, we saw a flock of people changing their tune regarding the Wii U in various websites, N4G included.

3. People were assuming that the 3DS would be utterly destroyed by the Vita right after Sony announced it.

Aaaaand... the Vita has sold, to date, about 4.5 million units, whereas 3DS is at around 30 million. Granted, the 3DS was released a full year before, but it's still averaging 15 million console sales per year, compared to the Vita's 4.5 million. Almost 4 times as much.

4. You don't know anything for a fact, and neither do I. But unlike you, I at least have the common sense not to try to pass my OPINION as fact.

YOU take your hater hat off for two seconds and try to realise that the videogame industry is wildly unpredictable. Also, you talk as if it's absolutely impossible for all three companies to have good showings at this year's E3.

I don't know if Nintendo can have such a good showing this year as to actually steal Sony and Microsoft's thunder, but I think it's possible for them to have a good show nonetheless.

Shinobi1001691d ago (Edited 1691d ago )

You are OBVIOUSLY spittin facts. Let's look at some of Nintendo's Metacritic scores on recent games to see EXACTLY how far their legendary standards have fallen: Zelda: Skyward Sword-93%, Super Mario Galaxy 2-97%, Kid Icarus: Uprising-83%, Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon-86%, Metroid: Other M-79%, Nintendo Land-77%, Mario Kart 7-85%, Super Mario 3D Land-90%.

EVERY single major IP, from handheld to home console, in the 97%-77% range? How the mighty have fallen

Nintendo's E3 Nintendo Direct will be INSANE. No stupid facts & figures or hardware tech mumbo-jumbo to appease the professionals. Just wall-to-wall games for us gamers. First look at Wii U Mario, Smash Bros, Mario Kart, Zelda, and Retro's mysterious game(s). Not to mention a closer look at Nintendo exclusives Bayonetta & Sonic. That would already be like Christmas mornin, but we're gonna get a whole Chanukah worth of new announcements on top

I will say that 3DS NEEDS an FPS. As in CoD or MPH

PerryCaravello1690d ago

Nobody cares about 'metacritic.'

That's a nerdy website, for nerdy people, who live their lives online lol. Average consumers don't give a flying fuck about it.

Let's look at sales. Nintendo is trailing the PS3,PSP,PSVITA, Xbox360, Wii.

Oh look, those things they call facts lol.

It's done.
