Katsutoshi Sasaki, Soulcalibur IV director writes: "It was right after wrapping development on the arcade edition of Soulcalibur III in early 2006 that we decided to start on Soulcalibur IV. It was also around this time that the next-gen consoles started coming out, so our team had meetings about what features, utilizing the capabilities of these consoles, we could offer in order to expand our audience.
Here's what the team came up with:
•We wanted breathtaking graphics
•We wanted to build a community via online gameplay
•We wanted to evolve the "Character Creation" feature of Soulcalibur III as it was a standout feature of the product.
Based on this, we created a product concept as the next title in the Soulcalibur series".
