The other one being Uncharted 2?

blitz06231783d ago

I'll just assume GT scored TLoU a 10/10

Enemy1783d ago

Yep. Two Naughty Dog games, exclusive to PlayStation, surprise surprise.

"OF. THE. DECADE."

Ducky1783d ago (Edited 1783d ago )

According to his twitter, it would seem the other game is Half Life 2.

Uncharted2 would be an odd choice, considering GT gave their GOTY to MW2 over UC2.

CaEsAr-1783d ago

Quoting " Dark Souls is on the border. TLOU is very special despite it's lack of novelty. Echoes of Half-Life 2"

s8anicslayer1783d ago

Uncharted 2 is a phenomenal game and although I enjoyed all three, two was such an improvement over the original game but kept all the elements that made Uncharted Drakes Fortune a refreshing experience.

AnotherProGamer1783d ago

the third one being Shadow of the Colossus

JoySticksFTW1783d ago

Demon's Souls is mine

But sooo hyped about this game.

From Software (Demons Souls, Dark Souls, 3D Dot Game Heroes) and Naughty Dogs easily have been my favorite devs this generation.

Chitown712911783d ago

We are only 3 and Half years into this decade . Half Life 2 and Shadow of the Colossus being on the list wouldnt even make sense . Im still looking forward to playing The Last Of Us

RAFFwaff1783d ago

nah, the original bioshock and mass effect 2.

No doubt

Last of is
Original bioshock
Red dead redemption

But last of us is having the last word so it will leave the last impression. Also people are overlooking ps3 is still getting 2 huge exclusives

Beyond 2 souls
GT6

2013 what a year for ps3

Nu no kuni
Sly 4
Last of us
Beyond 2 souls
GT6
God of war ascension

Why o why

I agree that's why ps4 purchase isn't a hard choice knowing Sony has delivered to gamers what matter most the games for 3 straight Genarations

Also who is to say ps3 won't get more support next year, since now ps3 is profitable and any can Mae their losses back

E3 should give us a clearer picture of what's to come for ps3. Also with install base for ps3 and Xbox 360 quite high expect almost every game to come to current systems just because of the install base and likelihood of making an easy profit

Why o why1783d ago (Edited 1783d ago )

Thats what you call ef*in support mate. Variety and quality in the same year the next console arrives... who else does this....who else

liorishot1783d ago

did GT actually even give it a score in the end?

ltachiUchiha1783d ago (Edited 1783d ago )

I think its fair to say polygon & gamespot definitely looking for hits. Just my opinion but its all good, I was happy with eurogamer & edge review since they are a tough reviewers.

s8anicslayer1783d ago

The problem is not that they're looking for hits its just that the person reviewing the game is more then Likely not a fan of that genre and or had a bad experience in the game that somehow turned them off! The reviewer for
Polygon said he was sick to his stomach so if that's so how can that be enjoyable for people who don't like thrills or horror? I think game sites need to have only certain reviewers judging a game based on their particular expertise instead of having staff unfairly reviewing a game because it wasn't their cup of tea!

matgrowcott1783d ago (Edited 1783d ago )

"I wanted to avoid that violence in part because of its disgusting detail. The Last of Us' graphics, animation and sound design are some of the best I've ever experienced."

He specifically named the "sick to his stomach" thing as a positive. He complained about poor combat, weak ally AI and paint-by-numbers third person waist-high cover fight scenes at odds with what is, otherwise, an innovative title.

Those all sound like pretty huge negatives to me, and to discount his opinion over something he specifically said was a good thing says a lot.

- edit

Just saw your reply below.

If I'd have edited the Polygon review, I'd have had the guy double check his score. It doesn't really fit with the text, but 90% of my editorial work is getting people to double check their score. I'd still have called it an 8/8.5 based on that text, .5 isn't a huge deal.

I think a better question would be why so many places are giving it perfect scores when it's obvious there are things about The Last of Us that aren't perfect? Those are the guys you want to call out.

Why o why1783d ago

No game is perfect. Why would you think a 10 is perfect. Every single game has a flaw, plothole, glitch, design issue etc. 10 for me means best in class and genre and that its hard to match NOT that the game has zero faults

matgrowcott1783d ago (Edited 1783d ago )

@Why o why

Ok, so let's presume you're right. How big does the design flaw have to be before you start knocking off points? If we weren't talking about TLOU, what would poor side characters and uninspiring shooting galleries with unoptimized, shaky controls do?

So - again - if these are indeed issues with the game (and I've seen it mentioned on sites that have given it 90-95, although I've not played it myself so can't commit to how bad they are), why aren't you calling out those guys instead of the ones that are rating, I think, pretty fairly?

s8anicslayer1783d ago

@mat I see you've quoted what I was talking about but have you read the whole review? I have not played the complete game yet but I have played the demo and from what I've seen it looks great. What you have here is a person who didn't like the game take off points by ripping apart AI and combat mechanics to justify his lower then expected score! How can so many people be wrong? But anyways in life there will always be naysayers and when I'm done playing this masterpiece to its bitter end I will crack open a brew and say this bud is for you Mr. I have to be the rain on every ones parade gaming website reviewer man!

Why o why1783d ago

'How big does the design flaw have to be before you start knocking off points?'

You'll know when you play it and compare it to other games in the genre. If the problems were game breaking you've gotta mark it down...definitely but some reviewers may be a bit more overzealous with their criticism of some games and genres over others. Another thing is you can only judge each site by its previous scores, not other peoples perceptions or other sites scores. If a said site gave uncharted 2 a 9.5 and they believe this game is better, why wouldn't they make it higher or a full ten.. 10 doesn't mean perfect to the point no game can surpass it...to me it just means a truly epic game that shouldn't be missed.

matgrowcott1783d ago (Edited 1783d ago )

"What you have here is a person who didn't like the game take off points by ripping apart AI and combat mechanics to justify his lower then expected score! How can so many people be wrong?"

Those issues are mentioned in multiple reviews, points aren't docked for them though. That is a problem.

Too many critics, professionals as well, don't understand how to review a game they enjoy. It's a far bigger problem than critics not knowing how to judge a game they don't enjoy.

Take a look at Journey, LIMBO, Braid. Take a look at Uncharted 3 or Bioshock Infinite. These are games that got 10/10 scores across the board but which have or had glaring issues.

I've enjoyed games that I've give 3/10. They're still 3/10 games. It's possible for TLOU to be a groundbreaking game, for it to have a fantastic story and for it to be "merely" a must-play.

EDIT

And by the way, he said multiple times that he really enjoyed it. Right now, I'm trusting his review over "THE CITIZEN KANE OF GAMING." One is at least a score backed up by strong opinion, the other is just hyperbole, playing to popular opinion of a game nobody has played.

matgrowcott1783d ago

The Gamespot review definitely named things that I'd mark it down for. Dull characters in a narrative-focussed game? Combat issues in a game with a load of combat?

That doesn't mean it's going to be bad - and I haven't played it yet, so I can't specifically comment - but if he'd mentioned those things and then gave it a 9 or a 10, I'd have been far more suspicious than I am now.

s8anicslayer1783d ago

Although I somewhat agree to your point I was mainly talking about polygons review of the game..7.5 is low for a game that has received so many perfect scores! Read the review from polygon and you'll understand why I said what I said.

isa_scout1783d ago

It's funny that only two or three people experienced the combat issues and "dull characters" you mentioned, and everyone else pretty much gushed over how good the A.I.,Characters, and Combat is.I can understand someone giving the game an 8 because it wasn't their type of game, but sadly in todays world of videogames a 7 or 7.5 is a mediocre score, and the reviewers know that. Trust me I'm one of them.Polygons review was and is just an example of a small site trying to get some traffic generated. I used to write for a small site, and know some of the politics that go into a review.

Thatguy-3101783d ago

New IP! Can't wait to see how the next installments will be like on ps4 hardware. Next Friday baby!

Majin-vegeta1783d ago

My top 3 games for GOTD.

In no praticular order.

1.Uncharted 2

2.MGS4

3.TLOU.

Pandamobile1783d ago (Edited 1783d ago )

Sounds like you only play games on one platform and are pretty new to games in general.

P.S, TLOU isn't even out yet...

Not saying these games aren't (going to be) awesome, but you're how can you not remember games like Half-Life 2, Shadow of the Colossus and the older MGS games.

Minato-Namikaze1783d ago

True but his 3 games are all very good selections. I usually dont worry about it because there are so many good games. Any list is subjective, so your selections are also very good. Especially SOTC, i love me some fumito Ueda games, lol

CaEsAr-1783d ago

MGS3 takes the game of decade for me. Along with SotC.

Campy da Camper1783d ago

Kids. Shit the original Doom is still near and dear to my heart as was standing in line at 7-11 to play super Mario brothers with my lunch money.

aquamala1783d ago

a game you haven't played yet is your #3 game of the decade?

Corpser1783d ago

@aqua

He doesn't need to play it though. He wants the game to be game of the decade, therefore when he plays it it will confirm what he wants to believe. It's called confirmation bias :)

saint_seya1783d ago

Checking about your comment history, its clear that u know the meaning of been biased..

BushLitter1783d ago (Edited 1783d ago )

Ummm. Uncharted 2 and MGS4 both fantastic games... BUT............... they were from last decade :p So was Half Life 2, MGS3 and SoTC. Time flies.

T21783d ago

True but game of the decade is pretty early to call then isnt it ? What about fallout 4 , gt5, siphon filter 1080p and all the games coming for ps4 , lol ( im just bugging )

Imalwaysright1783d ago

Exactly! The decade started 3 years ago!

yugovega1783d ago (Edited 1783d ago )
