"Back in 2008, Codemasters released Race Driver: Grid; a racing game which delivered something which the big names of the time seemed to be failing to do. Gran Turismo 5 was nowhere to be seen, Forza Motorsport 3 was sticking wholeheartedly to simulation, and the Need for Speed series was… well, best not addressed.

Rather than go all out wacky like Burnout: Paradise, or too serious like Forza, Race Driver: Grid seemed to know what it was setting out to do; emulate the experience of a race driver without getting too bogged down with realistic simulation. It gave you sponsorship details to pick from, different disciplines to master in your own time, and even a teammate whom you could hire and fire, depending how much money they made you."
