Bethesda on The Evil Within | GRTV

GRTV caught up with Bethesda's Pete Hines and Jason Bergman to learn more about The Evil Within.

"Tango has taken [idTech 5] and they've created their own lighting system," said Bergman och the engine and visuals. "It's all dynamic lights, all being done in real time. They've added a lot of post process effects like the film grain effect that you saw in the demo. They've made so that it works better with third person. They've added the cinema scope aspect ratio. They've done a lot to the engine to specifically capitalise on the kind of game they're making. And they're sending that back to id and we're sharing that with all our other studios. Machine Games have seen that and they've contributed stuff as well. There is a lot of tech sharing between the various studios in the Zenimax umbrella."

Bethesda must be the best game dev team to work on in the planet. You must accomplish 70% of the game by the deadlines, the rest is up to the community modders.

ok.. im gonna go slow on this one so try to listen. Bethesda Softworks is the PUBLISHER, they dont make the game another studio does. they help MARKET the game... sigh -_-

The Evil Within is a 100% Bethesda Softworks game, developed by a Bethesda Internal Team (Tango Gameworks), Using a Bethesda Owned engine (id tech 5).

It's like saying " GUYZ! SONIC TEAM ARE THE ONES MAKING THE NEXT SONIC GAME!! NOT SEGA!!!! THEY ARE JUST PUBLISHING "

Sonic Team = SEGA
Tango Gameworks = Bethesda

Done.

People should stop mixing up Bethesda Softworks with Bethesda Games Studio.

@rikitatsu My point is people think this game is gonna have bugs because TES and fallout has bugs. just because Bethesda Softworks owns idtech 5 doesnt mean its the same engine as in skyrim (creation engine).

You were implying that Bethesda Softworks is "just the publisher" and they "help market the game"

Don't backpedal.

You could have said that Bethesda Games Studio has nothing to do with the game, but you went on about how Behtesda Softworks are just publishing and helping the marketing, which is wrong evidently.

Dishonored was extremely polished.
Their buggy games were developed by Bethesda Games Studios (Elder Scrolls/Fallout guys).

So yeah, you shouldn't expect annoying bugs at all.

Thanks for explaining that, I knew about the existence of the Studio/Publishing houses but not about which was for responsible for which game.

Enjoy TRUE SURVIVAL HORROR while you chat with Ellie and other characters.

I'll wait for a game where I control a character who is alone and vulnerable.

why are you here then? Mikami revolutionized survival horror with Resident Evil then with RE4 and he will do it again with Evil Within, it's a pure survival horror not a game where you can see thru walls and escort a dirty annoying kid with you lol

With Resident Evil yes but with the fourth installment, not so much in my eyes. The over the shoulder view was great mind you and the game it self had one of the most solid engines I have came across but...

- Ammo/Health dropping made it feel way too much like a shooter.

- Pretty much destroyed the story arc of the previous installments without giving any closure to any of the characters (lead or otherwise).

- The overall results pretty much made almost all third person games this generation feel like Resident Evil 4 in infrastructure so barely anything felt new (except the first two installments of Lost Planet).

I know I sound like an old man complaining from rocking chair but I thought Resident Evil 3.5 and Resident Evil Outbreak File 2 were the true evolution of the series in terms of mechanics and stories by gum!

That being said I will smoke my corn cob pipe as I wait for The Evil Within.
