Analysis: Sega Changes Gear

After being relatively quiet at the end of 2007, Sega is aiming to make lots of noise in 2008, says Screen Digest analyst Piers Harding-Rolls.

Analysis of publisher activity in the first quarter of 2008 has thrown up some interesting trends, not least Sega's intention to shift up a gear and take a significant share of console software sales in early 2008. Following a quiet end to the year from the Japanese publisher with only six game SKUs released across current consoles (albeit a release schedule that included the successful Mario & Sonic At The Olympic Games on Wii), Sega is looking to release 16 different console SKUs in the first three months of 2008. This release schedule makes Sega the most active publisher across console platforms so far in 2008, comprehensively out-producing the largest publishers such as EA, Activision and Ubisoft.

Where is a new House of the Dead, Virtue Cop, Daytona USA, Virtua Tennis, Shenmue...Come on Sega stop with these kid games and start putting out some classics that made the Dreamcast so good!
