How PlayStation Mobile Failed

As we near E3, excitement for the PlayStation 4 and PS Vita is reaching epic levels, but what about PlayStation Mobile? Daily Reaction’s Seb and Dan look at the struggling platform and discuss what went wrong, why it’s failing and if anything can be done. - PSLS (Dev, Life of Pixel, Mobile, PS Vita, PS3, PS4)

If it had Kaz as the pixel, I would have donated to their Kickstarter.

I think Sony needs to look at getting the service open to all of its PSN stores. And then it would be easier to get devs on board. PS Mobile seems like a great way to get known mobile games onto the service, such as Dead Space Mobile, Mass Effect Infiltrator, Rayman Jungle Run etc etc.

I dont think it should be a place only for indies... that seems rather limiting for the service.

There just hasn't been any advertising for it.

Yeah, no buzz at all

Right now it's just a system in its infancy. Gaikai will make it legit. Sony has talked about playing PS1, 2 and 3 games on mobile devices from the cloud. Without the full system in place, they have nothing to really advertise with the exception of a handful of games. When it goes full on live, we'll see if it's what Sony is promising.

Good grief don't playstation fans get tired of shoe-horning gaikai into everything as the savior?
Also, "wait until next" should be the motto of all failing PS products.

It didn't get that killer 'killer app' to bring awareness to the service.

Very true

Life of Pixel is one of my favourite Vita games.

That game deserved much better though. It's the only Kickstarter I have ever backed because that game was too good for PSM aka minis 2.

Sony should just focus on PS3, PS Vita, and PS4 games. Enough of this mobile crap.

I want epic RPGs and action games....not phones games

To begin with; IT'S NOW EVEN AVAILABLE HERE.

I'd love to have this shit on my Vita, but nooooooooo, BS region locks.
Exactly! I have a Playstation Mobile certified device, but I can't use the service because it's not available in my country. I'm not an expert on the business, but I think that making sure the public has access to your product is an essential prerequisite for success.

Not only Sony failed in the mobile aplications, a lot of companies including Square-Enix lost a lot of money in this market, Zynga also fell into bankrupcy; because this sector is composed basically of very casual gamers. Most people use the smartphones and tablets to comunicate and get informed, playing music and take photos or video, not for play games in a little and uncomfortable screen.

hmm Yea Ive never even heard of this.
Foolsjoker  +   409d ago
Good job Sony.
Agent_hitman  +   409d ago
Yeah focus more on VITA and the upcoming PS4

I wanted a playstation mobile device when I first read about it, but the hardware was a good 1 year behind current gen android phones when it released, so I passed on it. Still would like to see it succeed.

Gunna be more difficult now though because one of the big appeals was the mechanical controls. Now Moga controllers are real popular with phones users looking for that option, so playstation mobile sort of lost that edge now.
