Retro Studios Working On A “New Brand”?

E3 is less than two weeks away, and we still don’t know what Nintendo subsidiary Retro Studios is working on. In fact, we don’t even know if the developer’s new game will be at E3. But last month, Nintendo revealed its plans to introduce the studio’s new project in the “not too distant future,” so it’s possible that we will see the game in the company’s pre-E3 Nintendo Direct, which airs on June 11th.

While some are speculating that Retro Studios is working on a new Metroid title, IGN‘s Senior Vice President of Content & Publisher, Peer Schneider, said in a recently aired Nintendo-centric podcast that he’s heard rumors that the developer is working on a “new brand.” the conversation starts at minute 24.

as much as I would love to see a possible new IP, I honestly really want another Metroid in the Prime storyline. Call me old fashioned but I love that trilogy of games.

Regardless we have less than 2 weeks to wait to find out.

Personally I feel the same way... I want Retro to use Metroid to showcase what the system is truly capable of and then use the same engine with the know how they garnered from the 1st WiiU game to make something amazing and new the second time around!

I'm with you unless they are making a new Star Fox game I think they should stick with Metroid imo.

They are probably the best major software dev out there. If Nintendo lets them spread their wings a little more who knows what they can come up with.

I love their ability to update classics like DKC and Metroid, and I'm not opposed to them creating more games in those series' but a new IP from them would be just as if not more appealing to me.

If there is one company I'm most curious about their project, its Retro.

I'd rather another Metroid first person adventure but at the end of the day it's Retro Studios we're talking about so whatever it is they're making it's going to be awesome.

The only thing ex-Retro developers, like the guys who are doing "Batman: Arkham Origins", have against Nintendo is that they could not do what they wanted and they could not try new things...
They had to make 3 MPs.

Obviously, Nintendo has changed that rule.

Nintendo really needs a good 1st Party FPS-
Or a modern to futuristic Open world.
Or they need truly adult games like a Quantic Dream Title or Rockstar's "LA Noire".
Another Adventure game would not stink (Raven Blade).

I am excited about whatever RETRO is doing.
But whatever it is- I think it will be very Western and very "cORE"- with Nintendo Gameplay as King.
(Because of what Nintendo wanted to do with the WiiU; reach-out to the Core.)

I hope that if another Samus game is in the works,
That it is in great hands.

Edit: From the article it is possible that they could be working on a new IP set with in the Metroid/Samus Universe.
