‘Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain’ director explains new graphics style (Photos)

By Shui Ta

Hideo Kojima has provided an explanation in regards to the new graphics style for his upcoming multiplatform video game, “Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain,” which is being developed for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. According to a report by the unofficial “Metal Gear Solid” website on May 23, the game director mentioned that they are aiming for photorealism with the Fox Engine. However, he also disclosed that “artistic design” is also vital. You can check out the graphics for the open-world action-adventure video game in the slideshow at the top of this article. Photorealism sounds nice, the gameplay trailer definately comes close to it. Now we only need it on next gen, even if it's coming later I'd probably still buy it twice.

Next gen would be great.

Is is just me, or does the title "The Phantom Pain" gives you the imagery of Big Boss saying to Solid

"Snake, I am your father"

Phantom Pain

Phantom Menace

Just something weird.

Kinda looks like a Metal gear 4.6 to me. It looks great, because Metal Gear 4 still looks amazing, but it's not the big leap that other franchises have gone through, taking it from these pictures at least.

I was also wondering if that interview with phantom pain director was on the engine..

So weird that this game is coming to current gen consoles, but I guess it makes sense with the larger install base. Just finished playing the HD Collection on my Xbox 360 so I'll be ready!

If you haven't, you really should play MGS4 though.

I played through it twice so far, I got the MGS backwards compatible PS3. Played through it again when they added Trophies.

The HD Collection was a Christmas gift, I probably would have picked it up on PS3 since I played those games on PS2 to begin with.

Cool. No, I just like to make sure everyone plays everything of that series.

Currently trying to get a friend to do just that. I am going to replay the whole thing again soonish.

Now I feel the need to lend out my copy of MGS HD Collection and MGS4 to friends. This is a series that everyone needs to experience for real. One of the best games I've ever played to this day.

Looks like he's been watching too many J.J. Abrams films. Still, day one.

Can't wait! Metal gear is one of the few games that is truly amazing at every installation. Emotional rides, moral lessons, great story telling at every turn if you can follow a well written story. This game is going to connect a lot of bridges and answer many questions and from the gameplay reveal very very sad and thrilling.

Damn, this engine was built for a generation of systems thats phasing out.. I hope its scaleable so that it stays relevant nx gen

I love the fact that a engine like this can make a game seem so... NEXT gen-ish. Way to go Kojima productions!!!

But rumors has it that this game is next gen, but I guess we wont know for sure until E3.
