Call of Duty: Ghosts has Kinect voice commands on Xbox One

Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg has confirmed that the Xbox One version of Call of Duty: Ghosts will have some form of Kinect voice commands. Speaking to VentureBeat, Hirshberg said, "I made a passing comment that you're going to see voice integration, voice commands via Kinect, which is something that we haven't done in the past with Call of Duty." He added that the improvements made to Kinect for Xbox One "really excite" the publisher... (Call of Duty: Ghosts, Kinect, PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One)

I bet their basic commands like telling the dog "play dead" for stealth missions which can make a distraction.

This didn't cross my mind until now..... "Voice command for the dog, would be cool"

As mentioned below, EndWar showed that voice commands can be highly effective in video games.

I wasn't planning on buying X1 or Call of Duty, but I may rethink that depending how well the voice recognition integration is.

@NeverEnding

Yeah and EndWar shown us you don't need kinect for voice commands to work. With a bit of luck, Sony can also get voice command support using microphones. Would be a huge slap in the face to Microsoft if they could.
Boody-Bandit  +   990d ago
Hold on a second. I gotta mute my crazy loud kicking 7.4 sound system, which I usually play at reference levels, so Kinect can hear me. "I need a medic!" *unmute sound system and continues on ward*

Neverending1989: "I was never planning on buying X1"

The only bigger lie that has been said is "Better with Kinect".
nukeitall  +   990d ago
@Brutallyhonest:

MS showed a video of how good Kinect can tune out the noise, and essentially filter it down to the person talking.

From the demonstration it filtered out practically all the noise. Even more amazing is, the Kinect can tell if you are facing it and directing a command at it so you won't get commands from a movie that happens to say Xbox.

I can't seem to find the video now, since it was so random.

Basically solved most of the problems with the original Kinect.

Here is just one video of many:

http://thenextweb.com/micro...

@aiBreeze:

The Kinect has special circuitry built in to enable this. Om the Xbox 360 and PS3 when using a regular microphone the speech recognition sucked. Kinect was way better, but still not good enough. Kinect One looks fantastic though.

except that sony and Zipper did it before, with SOCOM 2....

@nukeitall

Have you ever been in a room with a system that can hit reference level or above clean (without causing ear fatigue)? TV sound and a bunch of voices in a room compared to that kind of sound pressure / volume is a whole other stratosphere.

The nickname for my subwoofers in my gaming room - Structural Damage (which I run 6dB hot). They are named that for a reason. ;)

Maybe I should dust off my old xbox 1.
nukeitall  +   989d ago
@Brutallyhonest:

Because sound is just compressed waves and the Xbox knows what sound it emits, it can just subtract that portion out. It's not perfect, and it seems MS has done a damn good job with it.

I found a video, so check out the sound cancellation here:

@a_bro:

"except that sony and Zipper did it before, with SOCOM 2...."

Yup and before that, it existed on PC!

MS having a smart phone before Apple did, wasn't huge slap to Apple. In fact, Apple is laughing all the way to the bank!

It's not about who has what first, it is about who does it better and which one gets adopted by the public!

I dont want to sound like a retard playing cod...
just imagine...

x box - cod dog - start attack - nearest enemy -

x box - cod dog - roll over - and - bring me some lemonade - That Cool Refreshing Drink

http://www.youtube.com/watc...

and MS will listen to you all and lough about it, some of them maybe will be live streamed through kinect (like those LIVE porn girls) :D
I tell you its going to happen!!!

and people should stop say word x box in your room from now on, or it will listen and give wrong commands..
VonBraunschweigg  +   990d ago
Nope, sources say it's full voicecommand combined with Kinect, revolutionary stuff. Xbox, shoot that guy. No, I mean this guy! No no...Xbox shoot them all! No don't shoot those guys! Xbox stop shooting!

It's going to be a messacre. Only the dog will survive.

I didnt train my dog right. Whenever i say roll over she walks around in a full circle and waits for some food to drop for the next 2 hours. She will not move until food is dropped.
Goro  +   990d ago
Voice commands is fucking stupid and incredibly frustrating...that's if it's as bad as Dragon's Dogma/Binary Domain's system
Perjoss  +   990d ago
Did you ever play Tom Clancy's EndWar? the voice commands for that were eerily good, even adding stuff like 'erm' or pausing for a bit didn't make much diference, it was a solid addition and perfect for an RTS game, you could basically be doing 1 thing with the controller but also commanding other units with your voice.

edit: typical, phantom disagrees with no intelligent comments to go with them :)

Yup the EndWar stuff was epic.
My friend was just siting there and trying to send some troops to Zulu point for 20 min in tutorial , didn't complete the tutorial even. Then I just said use the controller .

This is so bad. I mean, I usually say that about all call of duty's, but this is seriously just laughably bad. The newest and most important addition to the COD franchise, is a dog that responds your voice commands... Wtf.
mrmancs  +   990d ago
Guess the four microphones on the PS eye are there for no reason.. And the two cameras... Though not something to boast about , merely a second thought compared to the awesome line up of ps4 titles... So Xbox one has voice control for TV and call of duty you say? Wow.....
*edit why so many disagrees? Don't you guy's get sarcasm? Lol.
Edit 2* jek_Porkins down below... Your buying a Xbox one and cod!? Lol.... Guy must like TV.

No the microphones on the PS4 are not there for no reason. But this is hardly groundbreaking when Sony already perfected voice commands with SOCOM Navy Seals back on the PS2.

Jek_Porkins  +   990d ago
Sweet, I always kind of wondered why they didn't do this before, if you can use voice commands to control the dogs, that is kind of neat and adds a level of immersion. From the looks of the new controller on Xbox One, you might be able to tell when enemy fire is coming from based on vibration on the controller.
aiBreeze  +   990d ago
Then a friend, kid, sibling comes into the room and yells "Xbox off" and your voice command immersion is instantly ruined.
NewEra7  +   990d ago
If you truly believe voice commanding a puppy adds a level of immersion you a truly delusional. More like complex storylines, characters with personality and beautiful environments. Your loyalty to these so called "innovaters" is unmatched.
Jek_Porkins  +   990d ago
Are you serious? Anything that makes you feel as if you're in the game is a plus, no matter how insignificant. Using voice commands to control a dog, a controller that has resistance and feedback and can alert you as to which direction you're being fired upon, those are ways to immerse people more into gaming.
waltercross  +   990d ago
What if you need to be quiet?, In my house late at night more often than not we need to keep it down.
NewEra7  +   990d ago
Are you ?! Everything you said in a sense has already been done in gaming. Voice commands certainly aren't. Sony had voice commands with SOCOM Navy seals back with PS2. Thats a 2 generation gap in gaming. The fact those were for a squad soldiers and this is for a DOG is quite laughable. As far as the controller isn't the feedback from gunfire already on the screen with reticules ? That would be annoying anyway getting feedback on the joystick everytime IMO. Either way no matter how you flip this its not immersive or next Gen gaming... point blank period.
SpinalRemains  +   990d ago
Pressing a button to reload is outdated?

Novel idea, but awful in reality.

Stop trying to make progress with peripherals. Just make the games better.
Excalibur  +   990d ago
Wow is this the only thing they can highlight over the 360 version? Is that supposed to Hype me into buying a whole new system?

BTW Mr. Developer I don't know if you realize this or not but Kinect is available on the 360 as well, there really is no reason to make voice commands XBox One exclusive ya know.

Not that I would use them anyway. ;)

I wonder if the PS4 version will have it too since the Playstation 4 Eye can do the same thing.

http://www.techradar.com/us...

PlayStation 4 Eye
What's really grabbing though is the development of the PlayStation 4 Eye, a newly developed camera system that utilizes two high-sensitivity camera equipped with wide-angle lenses and 85-degree diagonal angle views.
Sony said the cameras (amounting to 1280 x 800 pixels) can cut out the image of a player from the background or differentiate between players in the background and foreground, enhancing game play handily. There's also mention of logging in using facial recognition and using voice and body movements to play games "more intuitively."

I have the ps4 on pre order $500 sitting on it at mo , i dont want voice commands and i really hope they dont go this gimmicky direction like MS i want to game not flail at my tv and screen at a dog.

WOW that's it then xbox one for me then!

Oh wait though

1. I cut cable off 3 years ago
2.I don't want a console that in a few years will be unplayable if MS decide it's time to shut the servers off

xbox one still nothing to see for me then

Still not worth it.

Still rather play online for free and take my actual dog to the park.

Theyve gone from petting baby animals to giving dog commands lol!

Someone @ M$ needs their head examined yesterday. For the love of god, why do they continue making it worse? Mercy rules should apply at this point.
