Embarrassing - Metro: Last Light's Ranger Difficulty Can Be Easily Activated Via A Registry Tweak

DSOGaming writes: "Now this is really embarrassing for both 4A Games and Deep Silver. Remember the Ranger DLC Mode that can is being sold for 5 bucks? Well, this mode can be easily activated via a registry tweak. Yeap, you read that right. You won’t have to download anything additional in order to play with this ‘hardcore’ game mode. Only one registry value is needed in order to unlock this mode." (Metro: Last Light, PC, PS3, Xbox 360)

You realize the Ranger Mode stuff had nothing to do with Deep Silver or 4A right? THQ had already made deals with retailers before they went under for this pre-order deal and the contracts for that withheld when Deep Silver obtained the rights.

There you go:
“1: open regedit
2: Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Ste am/43160
3: Create a new String value called ListOfInstalledDLC with Value data 222801
4: Open game – New game – Select Hard Ranger Mode”

There is a high change that some won't find a 43160 folder (due to Steam's install), so search for the one that contains Metro: Last Light.

Also, the correct path is: "HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Softwa re/Valve/Steam/Apps/43160"

Isn't this illegal?
john2  +   512d ago
Tweaking the registry of your own computer? Nope. You don't download anything illegal.

You bought it, you can do what ever you want with it.
ambientFLIER  +   512d ago
Um, it doesn't quite work that way with software. You don't buy it, as much as rent it. You can just "do whatever you want with it"...

You mean charging $5 for a registry tweak? Unfortunately not, but gamers keep opening their wallets to such incredible stupidity.
ItsMeAgain  +   512d ago
The illegal part is charging for a game difficulty.

LMFAO this is great!

And its little things like this is what keeps people gaming on pc over consoles

Baffles me how people find these things out :-) maybe 4A did it on purpose cuz they knew how wrong it was to do the $5 fee . And since Publishers don't know shit about coding etc they did this ..

But its not working for me
