We're Indie, we like Microsoft. Too Controversial?

Gamasutra:
I wrote this post on our blog a few months ago to express how absolutely weird and unfortunate I thought it was that the trending perception of Microsoft and indies had gotten so bad that silly creative decisions of mine were being taken as Microsoft's ever-burgeoning evilness toward indies, or something.

Far too controversial, I mean the way it's understood is that there will be no indies on the Xbox One.

SexyGamerDude3988d ago

You must not read up on your news. More indies are abandoning MS than jumping on board. Some of the creators of the most famous Indie games are hopping off the MS ship. The creator of Minecraft even expressed his displeasure with MS. When the creator of one of the most famous Indie games on your console expresses his displeasure, you know you messed up.

Jek_Porkins3988d ago

You didn't read the article did you? These are indie devs saying that the articles about Xbox abandoning indies isn't hurting Microsoft, it's hurting the indie devs!

Please don't read the headlines or a comment, read what these people are saying.

Damage control in full effect.

MSFT is getting as much positive spin put out there on the most controversial things from partners under their thumbs right now.

*From the lack of power issue vs. PS4

*The "entertainment-centricnes s" of the console compared to the PS4

*The requirement to have to have Kinect always up and running to play or access content vs. the PS4

*The total amount of exclusives compared to the PS4

*The requirement to be always on compared to the PS4

==============

I'm just waiting for them to roll out the people that say, "I'm glad to pay a fee to access the internet and my content (that I already pay for) on my XBOXONE. Too controversial?"

ridiculous.

malokevi3988d ago

Anybody expressing positive sentiments about Xbone? HES A WITCH!

Seriously, though, I'm so excited for this console. Tho whole package looks phenomenal. Streamlining all my ridiculous crap into one tight package.

Now, all I'm waiting for is the games.... 2 weeks... garggle.

"But honestly, after their reveal yesterday, does anyone really WANT to make games for it?"

Anon19743988d ago (Edited 3988d ago )

As an indie developer myself it's pretty cut and dry. There are company's that are open to working with indies and allow indies to self publish on their platforms. There are company's who are more restrictive (and who many, many indies have complained about working with).

We're not currently working on anything for any of the next gen consoles but we do have something in the planning phases. I can tell you one thing, when it comes to being able to self publish versus not, my company is going to go the self publish route. There isn't even a debate.

Indie devs abandoning Microsoft hurts both them and Microsoft. Indie games are a huge market right now, and Microsoft is going to lose out on that. On the other hand, indie devs are losing a huge market to share their games with. It's a lose-lose situation, and Microsoft needs to wake up and fix it.

dcbronco3988d ago

If MS is losing so many Indie developers I can't wait to see the effects. Right now there is a non-stop pile of Indie games each week that makes it hard to keep track. Plus I wish someone would back up all of these leaving devs comments with some leaving dev facts. Otherwise sense there have been articles against both main consoles, I would assume as many are leaving PSN. Especially since we know Sony wants the rights to your games if they give support. I would think it's kinda hard for a dev to get going if one of the big boys keeps taking your stuff.

For this website. Yeah. For anywhere else. No.

SexyGamerDude3988d ago (Edited 3988d ago )

Go on twitter. You will see the majority of Indie devs do not agree with MS. It's not like we are pulling this out of our ***. Some may continue to roll with MS, but it's obvious the majority doesn't.

Man, you fanboys are thick in the head. MS can box a turd and you guys would probably buy it.

Count3988d ago

Why are you calling me a fanboy? Do you have a mirror in front of your PC screen?

Corpser3988d ago

You've been trolling ms articles nonstop and you created this account 2 days ago, I'm sure you have other accounts on here

bluetoto3988d ago

Of course he has many accounts, look at his bubble count after just 2 days! this is a pro sony site and it's amazing these MS supporters have sooooo many bubbles!

It's kind of crazy how the pre-release buzz on this thing has been made into this insane circus. A buddy of mine has been going berserk in regards to a lot of this stuff and about 85%-90% of it is pure speculation. I really love videogames and always have but seriously, sometimes I need to take a step back and ask myself why our community is filled with so many people who are so quick to jump the gun and make claims and decisions based on hearsay.

crazysammy3988d ago

Sadly its society in general. Its not just games but sports, politics, you name it. I would blame the 24 hour news cycle and the monetizing of ad revenue on the internet. Everyone needs hits and are more than happy to push a rumor as true as long as people go the their site. Since the internet is becoming (if not already) the largest source for "news" for most people misinformation is everywhere.

hankmoody3988d ago

Well put. It's definitely not just videogames either. I'm a big movie buff but if you look at certain movie sites, it's filled with people who are very similar to the worst that the gaming community have to offer. And again, a lot of that stuff is based on misinformation.

crazysammy3987d ago

So I cant believe I just noticed this, but your name is awesome!

McScroggz3988d ago

If he enjoys working with Microsoft and its platforms, then awesome for him. But everything that we have to go on points to Microsoft not only not making an effort to support indie developers, but hurting them.

pop-voxuli3988d ago

Dear Microsoft,

As soon as the Xbox One gets hacked, and it will, I and many others are going to pirate the piss out of every damn game available simply because of the way you have screwed your loyal fanbase by taking away our rights. You think you're gonna screw us? Guess again.

EKWB reportedly plagued with financial disarray many gaming pc's left without parts

EK Cooling allegedly has slipped itself into a hot soup of seemingly endless financial woes, where it has not paid its staff, suppliers, and contractors for many months as the company is facing liquidity problems and a surplus of inventory left unsold, stuck in the warehouse for a more extended period. Gamers Nexus investigated these claims made by former and current personnel, where he found trails of unpaid bills lasting as long as three to four months and unpaid raises that accumulated for almost a year.

EK Water Blocks has two entities—a Slovenian-based headquarters and a US-based subsidiary, EK Cooling Solutions. Steve narrated the series of events in detail, stating that the company was reportedly irresponsible and negligent regarding payment. Consequently, partners and employees are forced to share the burden of alleged mismanagement. It all begins with its extensive range of products, leading to a surplus of goods. EK has over 230 water blocks, 40 liquid cooling kits, 85 reservoirs, 40 pumps, 73 radiators, and 212 miscellaneous accessories.

Yes this is not about video games directly but indirectly this will impact the pc gaming/workstation space hard.

This company is massive one of two in the water cool space so if it goes poof then thousands out there have no spare parts or half built computers.

SO yeah i know not about a video game but think of it as amd leaving the pc space but this is ekwb that could be leaving water cooling in the pc space

Jayz2cents a supporter of there products also has issues

As someone that has built a watercooling rig. EK is big, but there's so many numerous watercooling part companies out there. EK's stuff isn't exactly amazing quality for the price compared to others either, it's just ok. Much like Corsair. The impact would be negligible long term. For perspective the majority of my parts are XSPC, at most I use EK for my gpu waterblocks and fittings. Both easily replaceable.
