The Last of Us: Naughty Dog Dev Explains How They Made Blood Look Realistic

Naughty Dog has always been known for the attention to detail they put in their games. (PS3, The Last Of Us)

Modelling does use maths.

From what I understand from the article, they have modeled final outcome of the blood effect along with some additional steps of blood spreading, and treated it a bit in "progress bar" style(with multiple layers), showing additional percentage of the effect each frame.

Clever and nice, without any real simulation. Seems to be pretty much expanding on current solutions.

Edit:
Which is pretty much visible on the gif. Notice the width of the stroke does not expand dynamically, starting from subtle stream. It's equally thick near the nose all the time.

Nice technique. Can't wait for more.

the gif is insane! the blood drop is so realistic i can't believe it! After the water in Uncharted 1, the snow in Uncharted 2 and sand in Uncharted 3 come the blood in The Last of Us!! Those guys are on fire

Speaking of fire, lets not forget the fire in Uncharted 3 xD

Naughty Dog are the best programmers in the business. Cannot wait to see what they have for PS4 - will be mind blowing

There are developers and then there's Naughty Dog, always ahead of its time.

where did you copy that awful comment from lol
seriously, ND need to stop talk about how talented they are, it's embarrassing, it'll only make other better and more talented devs laugh at them!

like Dead Space 2, Dead Island, Mortal Combat, Ninja Gaiden 3 etc.. all had fake ketchup right?

"Naughty Dog are the best programmers in the business."

lol...not. When they reach Rockstar's level then they can talk.
DCfan  +   413d ago
R* makes good games, but they're not AS creative as ND. Thats from my experience with every R* game

@DCfan

lol...What has ND created that has never been done before?Nothing I can think of. Rockstar has proven to be more creative. Just take a look at their past creations and compare. Not to take anything away from ND because they are one of the best out there but they aren't on Rockstar's level.
