Gameranx: "Trademark suggest limit will be placed on number of viewers for content."
If this is true, then I know exactly how many views it will ever get from me - 0. C'mon Microsoft, at least make the system somewhat friendly. Edit - I say this as a life-long Microsoft customer. The system is still in the wait-and-see phase, but limiting the amount of people who can view content is a bit narrow-minded. What about a football game? Or an evening playing games with multiple friends the system doesn't recognize? Granted, I know these concerns are probably being considered by Microsoft, but it's still disheartening at the moment.
Now you know the real reason why Kinect is required to turn the system on. They want to be able to count how many of you are sitting in front of the screen so they can nickle and dime you based on the size of your family. Better hope it doesn't think your dog is a person, or that nobody comes over while you're in the middle of watching a movie. *Xbox has detected an additional viewer. You will be charged $1.99 to continue.*
This is getting out of hand
Any people who think M$ has user interests in mind are blind or stupid, it is one charge after another and if people accept it like they did the online tax with the 360 then it will only mean more and more money grabbing from M$. Luckily it seems people have had enough and no longer support their crazy attempt at controlling gaming. KInect spying in my home forget that!!!!!!
Ladies and gentlemen, our new child... Xbox Paper One
It could just apply to a digital rental system of some kind. This is already the case for services like Google Play - you get a limited number of views for the download, or a limited time in which to watch it. Think people need to stop jumping to conclusions, frankly. They f**ked up their messaging at that Xbox Reveal, but let's at least allow them to show us what they're up to rather than making foolish extrapolations. From the trademark listing --> "an associated license option on the number of individual consumers or viewers allowed to consume the content."
The Kinect will have to become a lot smarter to push that kind of BS on me. I would just turn the Kinect so that it only faces one person when there is a group.
Why isn't xbone new getting better? Are they purposely piling a bad decision on top of another bad purpose?
??? WOW It's keeping better and better. I got nothing to say anymore...... Greedy M$ bastards. @ great melon, That's not gonna work. It will know you doing that and will shutdown automatic. It also got ears :(
It just gets worse and worse and it all started when rumours of f***ing natal started popping up! :@
Microsoft. SNAP THE [email protected]#K OUT OF IT I CAN NOT BELIEVE CAN NOT BELIEVE CAN NOT CAN NOT CAN NOT CAN NOT CAN NOT CAN NOT CAN NOT CAN NOT BE F#@#$G LIEVE what they are doing. who is the guy, who is the fkn guy behind all of this who is it? its not gates, he at least had the sense to give you a reach around before nickel and diming you for the dvd remote for the ogxbox. Gates needs to get back from Uganda and his eugenics research and bitch slap who ever this guy is he's left with the keys to his family Inheritance. complete waste of millions in research. they couldn't pay me to buy this box. boy am I on a rant today... I am just so pissed at msoft, I used to really enjoy their stuff. mainly on the pc side but they've jacked that up as well. SOMEONE tell me who is responsible for the complete clusterfk this has become. He needs to resign and apologise to the gaming community for just giving up. this is some Stalinist [email protected]#t they are pulling here. what in the hell. Im sorry dave... http://www.youtube.com/watc...
Well I guess we know why now ----> http://www.vg247.com/2013/0... and why kinect is mandatory I really want to see what they got on the gaming side at E3 because if they are spending this much money on a partnership with NFL I don't see them caring about games too much no wonder that PoS conference was like that... I bet most games at E3 will be kinect and multi-platform.
Microsoft's features for the Xbox One seem to be heavily catered for the US market. I really wonder how much of these TV features will be utilized given the different tastes and licensing agreements abroad.
So they're still talking about a viewer limit for "content"? If it happens it will likely be after X1 sales and system use reach a certain number and percentage. And they've processed user household information though Kinect.
omfg why call it a gaming console?
Funny thing is they aren't...it's "An All in One Entertainment device" I was looking for a Next-gen Gaming console
wow just one stupid thing after another, what a mess.
It's official. They've lost the plot.
Now now, remember "Wait till E3" :D ... http://global3.memecdn.com/...
You have got to be kidding me! I can't even watch PPV or content that I paid for through the Xbox One without having to worry about paying another fee if I have too many people over watching it with me?? Quote: "Based on the description of the technology developed for the patent it seems likely Microsoft will use the Kinect sensor, which is mandatory with Xbox One, to monitor the number of people present while watching a TV show, movie or music on the device. Presumably, should the content be consumed by too many people Xbox One owners will need to pay again."
Jesus, I thought this sounded absurd as a rumour, but now knowing it exists...
Per-View? I think MS mean Pay-Per-View..... Once MS realize only Jek-Porkins and Greendude are the only one's who purchased Xbox One, you may see MS giving this joke of a console away free as part of a contract ...like a cell phone. *for the troll who disagrees....what will it take? Does MS have to take a dump in your mouth for you to understand the gravity of all they are planning?
Nope, I just disagree and down vote every time I see a troll. Those are the only people I really down vote.
If you clinch your butt cheeks..maybe it won't hurt so much? #touché
I think your comment pretty much proves my point.
I'm becoming convinced that Microsoft want negative press. They must do.
More like the Micromanage Box. I wonder how their employees don't go home every night and cry into their Jack Daniels bottle.
Pay-Per-Play is next.
lol.. for you X1 early adopter just point kinect out of the view of everyone else, shit who am i kidding its probably will pick up voice and number count that too..
And even if it happens Xbox fans will still love their console. Jesus this is getting out of hand. Motorola RAZR i
i think it might just be a Patent just to have, i don't think they'll be arrogant enough to actually incorporate something that detrimental into their system.
Been a MS supporter through all their BS. This is where I check out. Next up charging per hour of playing a game you already bought. This has got to be the most suffocating platform to ever grace the world. If not, prove it.
they've completely lost their way...
You know after every thing microsoft announced at there press conference none of it disappointed me, but if they do this I'm done with them, this is just plain fucking stupid. No matter how big of a xbox fanboy you are you can't defens this. hopefully it's a patent that will never see that light of day.
I can't (and don't) believe they'll implement this.
Serious question to Xbox fans: do you really believe that they're going to let you just cover up Kinect if you don't want it staring at your junk 24/7? This is WHY it's mandatory. Their content and advertising partners have a big woody for this stuff, and only you/we can kill it right now by voting with dollars. Seriously, go and actually read "1984" if you haven't.
Create a third party license that will shrink the kinects viewing area like the one Nyko made.
The only possible way this could be remotely a good thing is if when I am alone or with a small group the price is reduced and not increased from today's price point.
I honestly can't think why anyone would buy a Xbox One.
At this rate, Xbox users will be flooding the arcade to play the games they own on their console, just to save money.
The Xbox brand is officially the AntiChrist of gaming.
Obviously Microsoft doesn't get invited to a lot parties. We have small parties at a friend's house where there can be 8 to 10 people playing/watching Kinect Sports or Dance Central. This may be a problem should our friends upgrade to Xbox One. Heck, at my previous job, they had Kinect contests where there could be up to 50 people in a crowd gathered around.
Even if this is just an idea they're toying with, it shows crystal clear what rotten business they have going on. Great job, MS Xbox Division. I wasn't a big fan of yours before, but you've managed to extinguish even the little respect I had left for you. I just hope people get that the Xbox One HAS to bomb, in order to prevent everything else we love, going that same villainous route.
Yeah, that is beyond stupid if its true. What the hell are MS thinking?
Just because it's patented doesn't mean it's implemented. But after seeing the X1 reveal I can't but fear the worst.
This is the most anti consumer BULL SH** i have ever seen.
i really hope this is one of those blue sky thinking patents that never gets used. the thing is, i have little trouble believing ms would actually implement something like that.
smh..I knew why they would want to include Kinect with every system sold so they can use this patent to screw customer over backward. This is like "You can't make this sh!t up!" type of doomsday scenario. MS is indeed the deathstar of the tech world. Could you imagine playing a 4 player co-op game and a bill get sent to you stating "You have exceeded the your license allowable for local co-op game players of 3,"
I don't think I can call it game console any more. Quote: The users consuming the content on a display device are monitored so that if the user-views licensed is exceeded, remedial action may be taken. Technology sure can be innovative *cough* invasive *cough* when used with a definitive purpose.
