"2010's Mafia II was a fantastic game with a brilliant narrative and unparalleled soundtrack, however, it has sadly been forgotten about this generation. We look back at one of the generations hidden gems."
I wouldn't really regard Mafia: II to be "hidden" as I remember a blitz of Mafia: II tv ads back in 2010. The Saboteur is a similar game which is more hidden than Mafia.
There was a lot of coverage and even support for it pre-launch, but things pretty rapidly turned sour and I do think a lot of people were put off by early reaction. The "it isn't GTA" crowd ruined it for an awful lot of people.
I thought it was better than any GTA game... I have yet to have a gta game hold my interest long enough to finish it. I think it it because of the repetitive game play, and missions. Mafia II Was "open world" but more focused and story driven. I actually finished it, and loved it. I hope they make a part 3. I hope Joe gets away.... He was my friend!
Great game, very underrated in my opinion.
Patiently waiting for Mafia 3.
Play the original.. it's far superioer. I waited eight long years for this rather dull sequel. Even today, i play the original Mafia, just to remind myself what a truly awesome game is. To this day, it's one of my all time favorite games, and i've been gaming for almost 20 years. Do yourself a favor, look beyond the rather olds-chool graphics, and enjoy the wonderful challenging game underneath. The only bad mission in the entire game, is in the parking garage. But it's only spoiled by bad layout of checkpoints and a horrid AI.... Man, i when i'm of from work i'm going home to play some Mafia :)
