Sony never owned Spyro or Crash. They brought on Insomniac and Naughty Dog, but those IP's stayed with Universal.
It's not saying that they did, but they certainly had a hand, and let the devs flourish, and the appreciation was, and still to this day reciprocated. The game plan has definite Sony involvement as you can see by the two different studios going in the same direction always on their projects is no coincidence.
