Metro Dev: “We Welcome the New Consoles to Join the “Generation” We’re Already in on PC”

It was a bit of a crazy day today, what with the curtain finally pulled back on the Xbox One (Chandler wants everyone to use the X-Bone shorthand) and a Twitter account for the Call of Duty dog killing it after just a few hours of existing. - PSLS (Class of Heroes 2, Metro: Last Light, PC, PS Vita, PS3, PS4, PSP, Watch Dogs, Xbox 360, Xbox One)

Just what I was thinking. Lol

Definitely a PSN deal worth taking advantage of, even if it's just to save a little on a PS+ membership.

That's funny (read:Sad) because the new generation starts with the consoles, whether pc gamers want to believe that or not. The fact is, PC games will only be as impressive as the console version they were (likely) ported from. Yes, there can be higher resolution textures and some DX11 stuff, but at the core, they're current gen games. I say this because I know. I am a PC gamer. (Twist ending!)
AznGaara  +   333d ago
This is true. Higher resolutions aren't everything. Why is it now, when the next gen of consoles are coming, we get new engines. Look at it: Unreal4, Cryteck3, Frostbite 3, Capcom and Square Enix's new engine. Developers of multiplatform games program for the lowest common denominator. THAT IS FACT. The next gen of gaming starts now.

eh.... no. The only thing that I would agree on is that most PC game developers will not create new engines to fully take advantage of all the tech, until new consoles come out. However, even within those engines, there have always been a HUGE difference in graphical quality.

Not sure how much we will see this gen, but at least thats how it has always been in the past
sarcastoid  +   333d ago
You agreed with the main point I was making, then.

yes, i do agree with that point, but i dont agree that they are current gen games, because most of the time, those new features added to the PC games are what end up defining what the Next Gen will be, kinda like DX11.

>That's funny (read:Sad) because the new generation starts with the consoles, whether pc gamers want to believe that or not.
That's true.

>The fact is, PC games will only be as impressive as the console version they were (likely) ported from.
That's not. If you took the console version of a game and put it side-by-side with the PC version, the Pc version is almost always better, be it something simple like FPS, to something like resolution and textures, to even physics like in Borderlands 2. Not to mention the fact that PC games aren't just console ports.

>Yes, there can be higher resolution textures and some DX11 stuff, but at the core, they're current gen games.
What exactly, then, is a current or next generation game? The amount of times I've heard people dismiss the Wii U as not next-gen for being not as powerful as its competition is staggering, and yet people say power isn't what determines next-gen when PC comes into play. Which is it, is power the deciding factor or not? Also, please explain what a current-gen and next-gen games are.

>I say this because I know. I am a PC gamer. (Twist ending!)
Which has no relevance. I'm a PC and console gamer, does that magically make me more of an expert than you seeing as how I have experience with both? No.
sarcastoid  +   333d ago
My main point: developers don't go all out on brand new engines (and even new approaches to current franchises) until new generations start. There are exceptions, of course, but in general this is true. And it's dictated by the launch of next-gen consoles, not ever-evolving PC hardware.
Letros  +   333d ago
You missed his point, next Gen capable hardware is already in players hands on PC.
kingduqc  +   333d ago
By the time of release a mid end gpu will have about 2-3 time the gpu power of the next gen that we will be stuck for the next 7 years...
CaulkSlap  +   333d ago
At least there's going to be a new lowest common denominator. Right now every multiplat is limited in designed by 8 year old 360/PS3 hardware.
SilentNegotiator  +   333d ago
Assuming people run out and get the latest mid-end GPUs, or even mostly have mid-end GPUs.

And looking at Steam data, you'll see that's a million lightyears away from the truth.
AznGaara  +   333d ago
Why is that picture so funny lol.

How many people can experience the next generation w/o spending $1000s?

You get what you pay for.
Pay $300 you get last gen(ps3 gen), Pay $500-600(ps4 gen) you get this gen, Pay $1000 you get next gen.

The PC has always been at the front (kinda like console "BETAs").

Internet
Multi-tasking
RTS
MMO (competitive onlines)
Streaming Services/Apps
Social
"Sharing LPs/ease of uploads"
Hardware
Software (DX11)

Consoles are just catching up.

Not just GRAPHICS.

What's next? A console iteration that can do MODS (traditional).. then it'll be touted as the 2nd coming.
