Stay Awhile and Listen: The Failure of Diablo III's Story

So how did the writing staff working for one of the most successful developers in history, on one of the most anticipated games in history manage to take a simple, timeless theme and blow it? Stay awhile, and listen. (Diablo III, PC)

The story is no where near the issue with D3. The Auction House is what killed this game for me. The combat and graphics however kept me playing until I beat it on every difficulty.
