Which Franchises Should Nintendo Bayonetta?

GotGame: Nintendo certainly seems to have an interesting strategy for this generation. While their competitors are focused on gaining an exclusive edge with multiplatform titles from huge developers, such as Sony’s deal with Destiny or Microsoft’s early DLC for Call of Duty, Nintendo is reaching out to small and medium sized developers to gain exclusives. Nintendo is working with Platinum Games on the Wonderful 101 and Bayonetta 2, with Atlus for Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem, with TT Fusion on Lego City Undercover, and with Sega for Sonic Lost World. (Bayonetta 2, Wii U)

Bayonetta is an verb now? Wouldn't a better term be "Dead Rising"? Or "Goldeneye"?

Anyone know what the first console exclusive third party game was? Maybe that should be the name of this verb.

And on topic, any exclusives are welcome for the system at this point. Though I doubt it won't result with someone raging about them.

Does the writer mean, which game should Nintendo save from oblivion do to no one wanting to fund it?

I'd say Shenmue 3.

Also, SEGA's Aliens series.

i wasnt sure, guess i was hoping it wasnt and somebody would do something with it. one of the finest games this gen imo
Locksus  +   738d ago
Definitely agree. It was a better Final Fantasy game than FF13
Dj7FairyTail  +   738d ago
You mean Mistwalker. Which they have already invested in The Last Story and owned.

I was just wondering with Sega and Nintendo's great relationship how epic would an Aliens x Metroid be? She's a bounty hunter that travels through space to unknown planets, so it wouldn't be too far fetched to come up with a great tie in story.
kirbyu  +   738d ago
I've heard Alien was a big influence on the first 4 Metroid games, so that would be friggen awesome.

Shenmue is a real possibility, especially since SEGA is in nice and cozy with Big N now.
If they can pull that off, they will move some units on that alone.

Hard to tell because modern hobbyist, have no loyalty to this old series and if anything they may be more excited over Yakuza than Shen.

Still, it would be a great decision if they can make it happen.

The problem with Shenmue III is that if they wanted to do it right, it would require a much higher budget than either Bayonetta 2, or Sonic The Lost World. Shenmue 3 would be a huge investment, and I'm not sure if the payout would warrant the investment. From a business perspective, I'm not sure it would make sense. From a gamer's perspective, it would be amazing if this happened.

That was back when it came out, it was trying to push the boundaries of gaming, but now it's totally doable. For a budget check just look into what it cost to make yakuza. They basically have the same design style.
lilbroRx  +   738d ago
No really. A lot of people fail to understand just why Shenmue cost so much. Most of the expense came from the research(traveling to China, advanced motion capture, making sculptures to help modal the in game character, etc.) and the fact that it was doing MANY things that had never been done before in gaming history. Also, the fact that it was originally being developed for the Saturn, which was scrapped and then had to start from scratch on the Dreamcast.

Yu Suzuki pushed the dev team to do things that they didn't even think were possible. They already have the data needed to make the game now. Most of the cost for Shenmue 3 would come simply from developing it on a next gen console.

Shen way better than yakuza
JustinWeinblatt  +   738d ago
The budget for Yakuza 1/2 was about 21 million, but that was on the PS2. Couldn't find a budget for 3. Clearly we're not talking the budget of the original Shenmue series, but it's still a fairly hefty investment for a series that has been MIA for over a decade. That isn't taking into account marketing costs. If Shenmue 3 were to succeed it would require a big marketing push and Sega would need to port the original 2 games to the Wii U. It would be expensive. Not Shenmue I/II expensive, but more than Bayonetta 2 expensive.

Don't want to be a negative Nancy though. I would absolutely love to see Shenmue 3 on the Wii U or any other console. It's one of the few games out there that I would buy a console for, so hopefully it will happen.

I say give Mega Man to Nintendo and give Banjo to either the ex-Rare employees or Retro Studios.

Soul Reaver!!! Yeah I made an account just to say that... O___o
segamon  +   738d ago

They wont take Kingdom Hearts from me as well!!
Trago1337  +   738d ago
Would it really matter what platform it ends up on? It could be released for PC and I wouldn't care lol.
JustinWeinblatt  +   738d ago
Uhhhhh... you do realize that there have already been two (three if you want to count Recoded) games in the franchise that have been exclusive to Nintendo consoles? In particular, Dream Drop was pretty important to the franchise.
DEATHxTHExKIDx  +   738d ago
I have all the Handheld ones. I mean I don't want them taking a main numbered Kingdom hearts as an exclusive.

Some sort of strategy RPG seems like it would work rather well. Something like Valkyria Chronicles but NOT the brand itself. I always felt that the WiiU pad would be rather good for some strategy RPG games.

[edit]

Also with the loss of the friend code it feels like some form of minor MMORPG would be perfect to. Now would be a perfect time for one Nintendo...

I don't get what the title says. Which franchise should nintendo "bayonetta" it could be better if they said should nintendo bayonet, as meaning to knife or pierce or stab. just like the first comment bayonetta was used as a verb which sound very wrong.
GameCents  +   738d ago
Yakuza. Maybe they can help make it relevant. Currently, it is not.

Okami - I think the GamePad could do some new wonders for it like it did for the Batman: Arkham City port. I always thought the Wii U had the potential to be THE console for action-adventure games if done right.
