Halo 4's CGI director on what the next gen Xbox bodes for storytelling

"To be honest we've been expecting cutscenes to move to real-time engines for many years now." [OXM UK] (Halo 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One)

Well the Halo 4 cutscenes were the best looking this generation in my personal opinion, hopefully with better tech we can get better emotions from the characters and that translates to better games.

@ Jek,

343 definitely bested Bungie at cutscenes by far.

The best cutscenes leading up to that point came from the underrated Halo wars.

It was indeed incredible. It took me a while to realise that the intro was CGI and even then I thought it was a mix. At times, the faces still look almost realistic.

Only thing we need now is to get some really awesome action scenes in that CGI to make the Ultimate Halo Campaign.

Sweet bring it on I look forward to seeing what the next Xbox will be capable of doing.

Great news. Cannot wait to see what it is capable of in 343i hands.

The first next gen Halo graphics will be inbetween Halo 4 gameplay and its cutscenes/forward unto dawn series with each game after that getting better looking as learning the hardware gets better. The Lighting engine is almost there now used for current gen tech.

It does not look as good as the HALO 4 cut scenes but is not that far nether.

I can't wait to see more next gen games! just few days more to go and then more at e3

Halo 4 was among the series best. Seriously, I don't get all the hate for it.

i used to believe that but after 6 months and actually looking at all the randomness and issues Ive changed me opinion. Its quite possibly the worst. Sure it feels more solid with shooting and movement but when you add in random ordinances and the destruction of vehicle combat due to plasma pistols, plasma grenades, and the low vehicle health then the gameplay just goes to crap.

343i did a remarkable job with it (though I do agree, there are some strange random things going on that could be considered a little wonky) but the one thing that kept me coming back was the specialization tree and the general leveling up and spartan customization. There was a lot of stuff to unlock and plenty of reasons to keep coming back to it.

The multi player has been awful on Halo after H2 died. I will never buy another halo game again because they just simply do not understand how to make a balanced game.

Halo 3 was great calm yourself. Reach was ok and then Halo 4 is where everything just dropped because of some executive choice and 343's choices from what i read in an interview.
