Beyond: Two Souls is The Last of Us Greatest Rival for GOTY

The Last of Us is an up-coming PS3 exclusive game taking place on a post-apocalyptic world. The game is set to launch next month, and it is receiving great previews as of now. Many believe The Last of Us to be the game of the year for 2013, but there is another PS3 exclusive game called Beyond: Two Souls which is also looking just as good if not better.

I don't know how people finally decide what is GOTY. Most years it is way to close to call a GOTY with few exceptions here and their where it is generally believed for a game to have won it.

It would be awesome for one of these, I think Last of Us will, to win GOTY as it could inspire other companies to take chances on new IPs.

For the 360 comment I refer back to my first statement. Some people believe Gears 1, Mass Effect 1(we will count it as 360 game for now) should have been GOTY. Few times, especially since the years have gone on and games have become much closer in quality, has there been a clear GOTY winner. Just look how many games have a GOTY addition.

Edit: Just looked up a list of GOTY recipients, the years of this gen is all over the place. Not one list comes close to matching another 2006-2012.

Both of these games will offer a compelling narrative and that is what it will make it Stan out from the rest. Can't freaking wait to get my hands on both of them. That being said though this year has been great for gamers and honestly I don't care who wins GOTY this time around as I'm getting my hands on all these great games.

Imo RDR narrative was much more compelling than Uncharted and Heavy Rain and I cared more about Marston than any Uncharted or Heavy Rain characters. It wouldn't be wise to understimate Rockstar as narrative goes.

I don't think bioshock infinite makes the cut. I loved it, but I still think the first bioshock was better. I know I'm going to love beyond but I'm not sure it will be up there either. I really think it will be between the last of us and gta 5. Hey It could even be something next gen, although launch games usually are not goty material. Oh and don't forget about dark souls 2. I know it will be in my personal running for goty, as long as they don't screw it up.

I feel like it might be a little too early for the Game Of The Year talk, we haven't played these games yet, although they'll probably be great!

I think competition will be tough all the way around with huge new next gen titles coming out, Destiny, Watch Dogs and a ton of other games not even announced yet. There is also Bioshock Infinite which has scored very well with sales and Metacritic, and GTAV is releasing as well.

Kind of fun to speculate though!

TBH i think/feel that the hype for GTA 5 is not that strong. People moved on.

Don't get me wrong the world they are currently creating looks amazing and huge but ... i get that Meh... feeling when i talk to my friend about it, i feel the same , My hype is just not there somehow.

But I have the complete opposite experience, everyone I talk to who is into gaming is very much looking forward to the next GTA, just like I am.

And from the way the internet blows up when any big news comes out about GTA5, a hell of a lot of other people are anticipating it as well. I think you'd have to be blind not to see that it is one of the most wanted games of the year.

Your experience is very much at odds with the feelings of many gamers around the globe.

LOL. I'm not just talking about MY personal experiences and opinions of Skyrim. Yes, just ignore the crazy amount of problems Skyrim had when it first came out and people's disappointment. -_-

I just don't see how a game which was practically broken on 1 platform, and had to be fixed with mods on another, wins GOTY. When a game like Arkham City runs great on ALL platforms.

Only reason why Skyrim's MASSIVE problems were overlooked is because it has "Elder Scrolls" in the name. lol Sorta like how Diablo 3 became one of the most critically acclaimed games of 2012 (from "pro" reviewers) despite all it's problems, and backlash it's received.

Didn't you just point out that uncharted 3 recieced a Goty award, now i suppose you're going to tell me that since It received less awards than xyz title that automatically invalidates the award that uncharted 3 got?

Edit: Basically what aquamala said, Uncharted 3 was nowhere near the top, also don't forget about Portal 2. Uncharted 2 has a better record for their year but I believe there where better games that year.

The two definitely look to be heavy contenders but the year isn't over yet and we haven't even seen some games that have likely been kept quite for next gen still. They are definitely potential top 5 though if play as good as they look but I am not ready to countout suprises we might get this fall either.

I really do think the industry would be better without this whole GOTY rage fest every year. Every individual is going to have a different perspective, I don't need a big news site agreeing with me to validate that the games I love are amazing.
