Nintendo issued a patch for Tomodachi Collection that disables players from having a same sex marriage. The way Nintendo has gone about this is not okay.
Marketing, pure and simple. That doesn't make it right, of course. But its pure marketing. Its a sad commentary on our society as a whole when Nintendo does something like this because they KNOW that parents won't buy their kid a game or support a platform that has "gayness" in it. Once again, I'm not saying that's right.
Or, rather, they're doing it because they're a Japanese company and--believe it or not--Japanese culture is slightly different from Western culture. Especially with regard to their attitudes toward homosexuals and women, which, were I to seek out a Western analog, I would equate to the Western attitudes from the turn of the -last- century. We're talking Victorian here. The Japanese are still getting used to the idea of seeing women working in offices (who are not secretaries).
I agree Xof. There are definite cultural differences. But it isn't like NOJ isn't asking NOA and NOE about marketing games in those countries. And it also isn't like young marketers in those countries are going to take a progressive approach to marketing if they don't deem it profitable. Its all about the bottom dollar, cultural differences notwithstanding.
Props to Nintendo. Good move. Isn't it funny how you're not allowed to be str8 anymore? No ones allowed to say anything negative or disagree with anything not str8. Pretty obvious plot at work. Hurray for Nintendo.
I figured you made this account specifically for the purpose of this comment. The sad part is that was a waste of time. Who's preventing anybody from being straight? Nobody's stopping me from liking women. On the other hand, isn't this ACTIVELY saying you're not allowed to be gay? Both Nintendo's actions and your defense of them are abhorrent.
What's sad is how people try to force their desire of no Str8'ness into everything. lol Abhorrent? Cliche character assassination. They didn't want that in their game. Period. I'm quite okay with that. You disagree. thats fine too. But for some odd reason myself and Nintendo actions are abhorrent. Lol. Like ive said, they attack anything that may disagree with not str8'ness.
They probably removed it because they don't want the following situation to happen. Kid plars the game. Kid marries two male Miis. Mom sees this. Mom thinks kid is playing something M rated. Mom sees it's E rated. Mom complains to Nintendo. Nintendo has entirely different controversy on their hands. It seems logical to me. Now, if this WAS an M rated game, we'd have a different story on our hands.
