The Definition of Hardcore Video Gaming

GameDynamo - "Hardcore. If you're a gamer, chances are you've heard this term being thrown around to describe multiple things. A "hardcore" game, a "hardcore" game player, a "hardcore" difficulty level. The word is normally associated with something that's not recommended for a general audience for multiple reasons. But what truly makes a game "hardcore"?" (Culture, Dark Souls, Dota 2, Fire Emblem: Awakening)

There are alot of definitions for a hardcore gamer but imo the true definition of a core gamer is, "Dedicated". Were die hard to the max in everything game related. "Competitive" is another definition but like i said there are many different definitions u can name for being a hardcore gamer.

I really don't like the labeling of 'hardcore' or 'core' vs 'casual'. It's really just a matter of preference as to which games a person plays. Any gamer is free to play games that are typically associated with either category. I just really think this type of labelling is not worth the effort. Just because someone plays a game you might consider 'casual' doesn't make their experience any less valid. There are people that play so called casual games for hundreds of hours and if that's not someone dedicated to video games than I don't know what is. Does a so called hardcore gamer use Kinect? what about Occulus Rift? what about a gamer that plays iphone games on the subway to work, plays Kinect games with his/her children and plays JRPGS on his/her PS3 by him/herself?

These categorizations of gamers is just marketing speak and IMO we gamers should not take on the behaviours of these business groups that seek to label and categorize for their own purposes.

Kinect, phone, browser games & other such sh1t is obviously casual games but why do u care how others label u? if u r a casual gamer then how u expect some1 to call u? hardcore? or maybe just a gamer because that will sound better to your sensitive ears lol..

As in life we have various groups of ppl like pure/rich, educated/uneducated, smart/dub, skilled/clumsy & so on the same thing apply to games also not every1 can finish for example the StarCraft2: WoL campaign on brutal it needs a lot of burning & dedication & it's definitely something a casual player never learn to do or doesn't even want to put himself in that kind of situation, to struggle in order to get a very precious for some "trophy" that will be there for every1 to see & admire.
