Shahid Ahmad: Sony has “More Developer Engagement on PS4 Than We’ve had for any Previous Console”

Shahid Ahmad, Senior Business Development Manager at SCEE, made quite the stir last week when he teased “an amazing big title coming to Vita.”

Well, Shahid recently talked to Gamasutra about all things PlayStation, revealing that “I think we’re going to have a really [PS4] good launch, and I think we’re going to have a good amount of content appearing for quite some time on that. We’ve got more developer engagement on PS4 than we’ve had for any previous console, so that’s a really healthy sign.” This is a very good thing for everyone because, as Ahmad said: “There isn’t a console in history where making sure that you have content for it wasn’t an issue.” (PS2, PS3, PS4, Sony)

Thats good cause if the devs are comfy with what they are doing then they will make better games quicker.

Agreed. Not surprising given all the praise from developers the PS4 has been getting.

combined with strong 3rd party support...

= Games, games, and more GAMES!!!

Agreed, from all of these developer praises and games that are coming to the PS4, the PS4's launch could be very successful, it can maybe even repeat the PS1's reign.

for the PS4 it's almost as easy as "copy - paste" because of the architecture, wide engine support and the self publishing option for developers.

Two words i have to say:

Greatness awaits!
MikeMyers  +   622d ago
Isn't there also more game developers now overall than at any time in Playstation history?
M-M  +   622d ago
That's been one of Sony's main focuses for the PS4, and developers have said nothing but positive comments about it.

Everything sounds good so far.

If the Xbox had stronger 1st party titles, the third party titles wouldn't sell as much.
CoD doesn't sell as well on PS3 as it does on 360 because when PlayStation customers go to buy a game there are many more options to choose from. With 360 your best bet is to go with a 3rd party title, since the options are limited.

PS2's epic story will repeated !
Imalwaysright  +   622d ago
For Sony to repeat PS2 story they will need variety and to achieve that, they need 3rd parties to stop turning every game into a generic shooter. Good luck with that.
Shuyin  +   622d ago
As sad as it is..just no. Sony can't be THAT epic this time around. Think of all the exclusives the PS2 had? Which didn't go multiplat? Very few.
Nonetheless the PS4 will reign king. It will be very compelling. Defo looking forward to it :D

u took the words right out of my mouth. back to the ps2 days.

Developers, Developers, Developers, Developers!

someone should take that Balmer clip and edit Mark Cerny's face into it.
CEOSteveBallmer  +   621d ago
LOL!! its somehow ironic that steve ballmer said this years ago and yet, the Xbox is being criticized for having less exclusives.

Sony is going smart and big and powerful with the ps4. I can't wait to get my hands on with the console.
Wesley85  +   622d ago
Varity is the spice of life, but I hope there are not too many games upon release. Maybe two or three of each genre, otherwise there will be more games than people can afford to buy on top of the console, thus resulting in developers being hit in the pocket. Next year though, let them flood in :)
Tonester925  +   622d ago
I want to buy 3 PS4s then sell 2 of them on ebay for like $1000 each. Then buy all the launch games with the profit.

Unless Sony can keep up with the demand first month.

JimCom95  +   622d ago
Wow! Thats crazy think about all support the PS2 had, I mean the console had over 10,000 games on it!
NateCole  +   622d ago
lunching will be critical. Avaliability, good price and good marketing will be really important. The content will be there.
Belking  +   622d ago
Just more proof that devs didn't like the cell. It was smart of sony to dump it.
CEOSteveBallmer  +   621d ago
MS needs Steve Ballmer again on stage, this time on E3 and will go crazy shit saying "Developers, Developers, Developers, Developers"!!
DivineAssault  +   621d ago
More than likely that will mean more games too.. Good cuz this past gen was my least favorite & it will be great to see the same quality & amount of games as previous gens.. There are some people dismissing the PS4 at this point but if they show off enough good content & features at E3, its possible sony will once again be on top of the console world.. I personally dont care about which system sells more but i know that every time sony is on top, theres MASSIVE amounts of titles to play.. Wii was on top & virtually all of its good games were 1st party

SonyPS4  +   621d ago
Will this be the true successor to the PS2? Most likely.
mochachino  +   621d ago
Sounds like Sony is once again adopting their dev-centric PS1 mentality instead of the "f u devs, adapt - we boss" mentality they had with PS3.
